NY chicken lover!!!!

Craiglist you get all kinds of strange / cheap people ..

Do you think your Cemanis are smarter than the average bird ?
sounds like her Cemanis might be smarter than some CL users. Research what you are looking to buy. Silly people. $300 for them is a good reason for most people to not have them. Most can't properly tend a $3 bird let alone an expensive one. For me it would be a waste of money and beautiful bird for now. I want to gain more experience before I try a truly rare breed.

A question for you guys - since I'm going to start breeding my silkies should I have a separate breeding pen or let me roosters be in with everyone?
If he's the only too he can comingle. If you have other roos you need to remove your breeding group out e weeks prior to collection for incubation. It takes 3 weeks for "roo" to be clear of production system.

Tis odd question time. Everyone talks about feeding scrambled egg to the flock. Is it also acceptable to feed them left over cooked chicken? With 5 kids there are nights we have leftovers and I prefer to feed what I can to the dogs and chickens.

That foot looks painful, I hope you're able to get it fixed up! Glad the chicken is acting mostly fine! I agree that an odor would indicate an infection.

Well, I was hoping I'd be getting a few more eggs by now, but my girls are being stubborn. Still just one a day... I haven't threatened to make soup out of them yet, maybe I'll try that!
All four of my chickens started refusing their fermented feed when the cold weather hit. I have just switched them to a higher protein grower feed (and planty of oyster shells on the side), and have been giving it to them dry for 2 weeks, which they're gobbling up. Made a batch of ff up and gave them a dish today, and they didn't eat a single bite. **** birds. They are as bad as my 3-year-old daughter.

I personally have no problem feeding my chickens leftover, ahem, chicken.

My husband, on the other hand, thinks its positively wrong. LOL! So I send scraps out to the pen when he's not looking.

Many people feed their chickens chicken and turkey carcasses. I don't. Only reason is I scavenge for every last scrap for sandwiches or soup, nothing left. We have five kids, there is never any leftovers....Ohh do you mean on their plates? I clean them up lol!! Only time I don't is if their plates have been setting for hrs and the wife wont let me. Chickens get it then.
I usually cut up the big stuff so they all get some. Funniest thing I threw a whole pork chop in their run, don't know how long it took before they got a chance to eat it, 15 of them running, stealing, and playing 'keep away' while I watched. I was almost late for work wondering how the game would end. Not doing that again..

Oh no not pan leftovers, those do t exist. The kids get a case of mouse belly sometimes and don't eat a lot so the animals get the plate crumbs. Their favorite by far has been any meat, oh and fresh jelly sugar free of course. They also love live meals, if it crosses their path it becomes snack.

Mouse belly...Lol...never thought of that myself, but I guess my kids who are raptors, eat non-stop all day, always hungry,.....sometimes the darn things loose their rapturous appetite...get 'mouse belly' I guess.. never heard that one myself either but describes it to a T.
