NY chicken lover!!!!

Must be pretty chilly on your mountain - the valley here is a toasty -1F right now with wing chill of OMG!

I vow to never live up on a hill after this house. The wind up here is unbelievable and the drifting miserable. Looks like I have to call the plow guy again because it's unlikely my car can get thru these new drifts.

The chickens are doing alright. Battling a little frostbite, but hanging in there. I brought the geese into the chicken house to get them out of the wind & put them in the only pen that really had room for them: the bachelor pen. Needless to say, neither the geese nor the roosters are too pleased with the situation, lol. They'll be kicked out as soon as this cold snap passes.

Devona - your menagerie look very happy!

Yes, well they weren't very happy with the chasing and grabbing that went on before I could catch them to bring them inside. I still have three rabbits outside, but their hutch is wind proof I think, and in a protected area under the attached overhang, next to the house, backed onto a cinder block wall... You get the picture. And they have a heating pad. I have a thermometer in there that I'm about to go check.

Just checked the temp in the rabbit hutch. On the second floor where they sleep, with body heat and heating pad, it's 25*! Of course it should be warmer directly on the pad. But somehow I thought that area would be warmer

It's officially freezing cold out. That was temp in the car...not even with wind chill. Praying my crews are safe & yours are too!!! I had one poor rooster with his tail frozen in the water bowl. Can't wait for the thaw!!!

Happy chickens all day. It never dropped below 20°in the coop. Water had to be changed every 3 hours and they can't have the FF all at once until the cold breaks as it freezes in an hour. Everyone stay warm.

Where could I find Welssumers? I haven't raised chicks. We have purchased pullets from someone in Groton. I would probably take 4 since they seem to be of good temperament.

I have one and my sil had a breeding trio. If she separates her pen I can get you some this summer. Otherwise, I got my eggs from Deb in Pompey, NY. She usually uses craigslist to advertise.

Temp in my chx house is 4 degrees. Not looking forward to what I will find in there in the am. Fingers crossed and prayers said. Might be time to move south.
