I hope the little ones make it ....and have a warm place to huddle ...I probably would have brought them in ..Temp in my chx house is 4 degrees. Not looking forward to what I will find in there in the am. Fingers crossed and prayers said. Might be time to move south.
Could have been a barn rat or a mouse that was trying to get warm. I have found bloody piles of bedding a few times I'm my coop. I hope it's not a disease waiting to happen because I can't keep critters out and still have air flow. Something always finds a way in.
I have one and my sil had a breeding trio. If she separates her pen I can get you some this summer. Otherwise, I got my eggs from Deb in Pompey, NY. She usually uses craigslist to advertise.
I am not planning to go outside yet (not much I can do), but I do have a camera in one of my coops and they are pecking around in there just fine.. I can't see in to the other coop and it's closed to keep them in. I'll venture out asapWell, my phone tells me it's -22 degrees out this morning... my poor poor chickens. I dread that I'll walk out there and they'll all be frozen to death
And they still have an entire day of it to endure...![]()
I don't have any little ones ATM, fortunately. So far I've narrowly resisted the urge to set eggs or let broodies brood. Bringing them all in would prob be more stressful for them than this rotten cold snap. Not sure how I'd accommodate 35 birds (incl 8 roos & 2 geese) in my basement, tho I'm sure it would be a sight. Your two look very happy with their situation tho. TiTi is a beautiful hen. Is she a Sumatra?
