Do you take the pallets apart and then make the coop, or do you use the pallets as they are, and make the walls with them?

As you can see, I use 2x4 for structure support. The coop is built on top of 2 whole pallets with flooring of 1/2" particle board. Then I build the frame and fill in with whatever I have available. The duck hut is entirely taken apart pallet wood. Thee chicken coop is a mix of pallet wood and plyboard, whatever was available. There are a couple more pics on my photo album if you want more.
When you take the pallets apart, if you remove all the nails etc. the thicker middle pieces can be used as 2x4s in a smaller building like the duck hut.

Get them a flock blockNOW, where I see the issue is the scratch then. Gathered by your post, we have 8 chickens. I've been feeding them two SCOOPS. I'd guess about 3 cups. My husbands been putting it in the run in the morning and I've just been adding the two scoops in the coop.
My husband tried to tell me, but I figured they needed more to get them through winter and that it would keep them from getting bored in the coop. I bet it's actually making them go after each other!!!
Well, I've learned a couple things. Poor girls. No wonder why they're not interested in their regular food.![]()
I bought a flock block for my chickens and it made them all extremely lethargic and messed up their digestive systems for weeks, even after I took it out. They wouldn't eat regular feed at all, even though the flock block was only in there for 3 days. The lard and molasses really bogged them down. And the protein level was still lower than their feed. I think in the winter it makes sense to stick to a high protein feed- I switched my chickens all back to grower feed to give them the added protein.Get them a flock blockIt will keep them busy and provide a little bit of a treat if they want to work for it. A handful of scratch morning and evening would be plenty.![]()

Thank you, I'll have to check it out tomorrow. My husband said both girls were fine today. No raspy sound. I think I'll go out and open their nests and air it out as you said. They do get the kale, spinach, colored carrots, cooked potatoes. NOW, where I see the issue is the scratch then. Gathered by your post, we have 8 chickens. I've been feeding them two SCOOPS. Wow! This is awesome!! Now why can't I ever think of these things? People are so darn creative! So you took the pallet apart and in most places. Did you insulate them? Already I like the one in the middle. That would give the girls a nice safe shelter when they're free ranging.
