NY chicken lover!!!!

Instead of another coop you could get a dog cage ..
Try Craigs List ..or look at garage sales
Here is my big one ...I have 2 small ones also
Interesting. Do you put birds that are being aggressive in there? New chicks your introducing? Are those kitty litter bins for nests? I love seeing what everyone does! You all have some pretty imaginative ideas!

Those are beautiful!!!!
Thank you! As I mentioned, I can't seem to work from plans, so the idea was in my head - I modified as I went along..
IrishGem I used heat treated pallets for the areas where a duck/ chicken could peck, but used other boards higher up. I have read about 'off-gassing' from some of the older pallets - fortunately they are being phased out....

I don't know what causes it, but their belly swells up and is very soft. I brought them in the house and gave them warm baths to sit in at least once a day and after a few days the swelling goes down. At first I thought that they were egg bound, but that wasn't it. Not sure what it was and didn't want to try to drain it.
They all are pretty much the same..They were labeled Red Sexlinks when I bought them. I originally had 7. I gave 3 to a friend that wanted to start a small flock of friendly hens. And that left me with 3. I lost Buffy the same way as Red. Scarlet started out with the same bloated issues so I knew her time was limited, but she ended up having sour crop that I didn't catch in time.

I did the research and much of it said Buckwheat was doomed. I had her separated of course, but loaded her up with lots of Gran I Grit. In soluble to make sure she got a lot. I also gave her some Duramycin for a couple of days and Sulmet for a couple of days. I just figured I'd try everything in my arsenal.

I also considered that her system might have been clogged and the grit would get things working. She was eating and pooping so I figured things were going through.

Her swelling went down and she began to lay. Though she did swell up again, she is still with me, but hasn't laid in a while. I did find an egg in the box her and Frenchy sleep in but think it may be Frenchy's. Wish i could stick it in the incu. Frenchy's 8th birthday was the 20/21st.

I'm about to order the complete series of the "The Magic School Bus". They had one episode where the class becomes part of the egg and go through the chicken. My grandkids love the show.

I am adamant about dumping grit. It's cheap enough and may help. When I do dump it they eat it so what's the harm?

I've ordered from Etsy plenty of times. I've gotten house plants, jewelry and other gifts.

@rancher hicks have you looked at Michigan Bulb?
They have mixed colors and a cool white one with purple throat

Wow foxgloves are $. That catalog has a excellent selection of tulips, daffodils, lilys, etc in bulk.
I've got purplish blue foxgloves growing on the backside of my garage, reseed themselves every yr. I think I might save some seeds this yr and get a larger group of them going. Saved seeds a couple yrs ago, easy seeds to save, but forgot about them...

I'm looking to get "Suttons Apricot" . I saw it in a British magazine and have found a company over there that has it but doesn't ship here. Too, there are varieties that not all companies sell.

I can get the basic varieties but special varieties are not so easy to find. Some places only sell 10 or so seeds. You really have to give a lot of attention to plants if you don't want to waste your money.

I just wondered if I could order a pack here and a pack there and save on shipping.

Great! I've read good things about Ideal. Please keep us posted on ur chicks! Fingers crossed for safe arrival!!
My first order of chicks came from Ideal. All chicks arrived find in Feb. 2008. Frenchy is the only one left. Others were either given away or died.

If I were to order chicks I would not have a problem ordering from them. IF I were to dump all roos and stick with just hens.

Not hatch anymore too.

Again is Marq done? Has anyone heard from her?

She hasn't been on in a couple months. Maybe she's upset with my uncalled for comments some months ago.
@marquisella @bakingintherain anyone else I may have offended. I'm sorry I was a (can't say here)... I make no excuses, I shouldn't have posted that comment, and I should have apologized long ago.
I was going to send her a pm, but I made the comment public, may have offended others, I'll make the apology public.

She is more apt to read a PM ..as it will go directly to her ...where a public one wont
