NY chicken lover!!!!

Wow. I guess that I haven't checked in for a while..over 200 posts. Don't think that I will be able to read them all to catch up...So I'm sorry if I have missed any thing important. Things here have been busy. My incubators are due to hatch in about 4 days or so. One has some of my girls eggs the other has some duck eggs. Been busy working lately and DH has been home this week on vacation.. The only thing that is really eggciting is that my sister just hatched a new chick... A pullet this morning clocking in at a whopping 6lbs 14oz. Love being an Aunt again...
Congratulations! She's beautiful!

Yes, spring is baby season! Congrats luv! And congrats on your over achievers, lapeerian! Purpletie, you had me cracking up with your Kung fu silkie! I had such a visual with that. Here are some unfinished coop pics. The back and two sides are on. The front will have a double door, the floor will be two plastic trays sitting on some hardware cloth, the roof will be asphalt shingles over plywood, I think. I gave up on the window idea, but as you can see, windows aren't necessary.

Looks great! Can't wait to see it when it's done!

Just wanted to share something I never heard or thought of. Always wanted a greenhouse. Didn't know you could repurpose them for a greenhouse. Probably make a good hoop house chicken coop also. We have a old 14' one wife has wanted thrown out, hates the little kids getting on it, no safety enclosure or cover over springs.
They cut them in half and attach them with pvc pipe, make them as long as you want. Shorter ones can be built up taller with 2x4 frame.

You could make low hoop covers out of those also!

Johnny's seeds has a hoop bender that they sell and you use it on top rail chain link and bend them for a hoop house. Pretty neat stuff.

I want a greenhouse SOOOO bad!

Looks good. I have an old trampoline also, but it's the ones that come with an enclosure. I'm sure if I lay it down and cover with plastic, it would make an awesome greenhouse

That's really interesting. Once you get the hang of repurposing things everything looks like a building project. I have an old mattress foundation stripped down to the wood frame as a trellis attached to the end of one of my chicken coops. Last year it had morning glories climbing it, but I just bought a red seedless grape to plant for this year.

I wrote a post the other day and thought I posted it but I guess I deleted it somehow. Anyway as far as moving goes they are selling our house for more then it's worth so I'm not worried about it selling quickly. Also they are putting it in the contract that when the house sells we get a full year to move out. Now that that is out of the way I reordered my welsh harliquin duck eggs, and a few SFH eggs. I was building a coop from some scraps for silkies but am thinking I will use it for the ducks. It has ground height nest boxes, will the ducks use them? I'm thinking not?

On another note I decided to not keep the marsh daisy, twentse and east Frisian gull chicks from GFF. Let me know if your interested in any. I will say the twentse are very fast feathering in.

My hatch of brahmas did not go so well. I had a lot of malpositions, almost all had head between feet. I have another brahma batch going into lockdown Sunday. I did get 3 cute little fluffballs from the first batch though.
