NY chicken lover!!!!

Welcome back Breela & hello there koopmaster.

We got so far today getting our 10x20 all cleaned out from the winter mess and set for the new crew of grow outs. I took some random pics today of everyone playing!

Hide and seek in the new straw...

The Pavs are growing out so beautifully....& the CCL's too!

First day in the new playpen for them!

My peahen and spitz are suite mates...They used to be the same size! LOL

I won't be at chickenstock. I'll be in Alaska celebrating my birthday with my son and his family. I get excited sometimes but others I hate to be away from home. I feel like I'm not getting things done. Of course if I had more money, I'd be busier.

Spending money. I hope we can find enough to do.

Last time at my sons I fixed things and painted the dinningroom. They live on base so it's not likely I'll be fixing things in Alaska. I will be scouting chicken folks though. Gotta see if they have chickens in Alaska.

Seriously I have a BYC friend from the granny square swap who live in Alaska but I think about two hours away. Not sure I can get there by car though. She lives in Sterling, AK. Sebocat. Nice lady.

In TX I spent some time at HD, buying things to fix things on my daughters house. Next time I'll get pictures of the farmers market there. Amazing.

Welcome back Brella and welcome newcomers.

Take care folks and have a good weekend

I got into the garden yesterday (after I had given blood, probably not a great idea) and planted some lettuce, swiss chard, broccoli and the onion starts I had ordered. Also planted a few asparagus roots. The kale I planted a couple weeks ago is germinating well, but the peas aren't popping yet. I'm wondering if they drowned with all that rain last week... I'll give them a few more days before I re-plant.
Has anyone grown artichokes before? I was excited to find seed when I stopped into the Ithaca Agway the other day, so I started some under my light. But it's pretty late- they have a very long growing season. Does anyone know if they'll overwinter and produce in the second year? When I lived in NJ I had a friend who grew them as a biennial, but it was also a zone 6B down their, so winters are MUCH milder...

@shodack I've never planted artichokes before, planned on it this yr until I saw how much space the plants take up, they're huge. I doubt they would be biennial here. I left my plot of kale alone to see if it comes back and goes to seed even though I'm planting new seed.
