NY chicken lover!!!!

I don't think I set anything in stone. I still haven't gotten the softball schedule, but I'm pretty sure we'll make it to chickenstock. Now my dad is having health issues so I have to get through that first too before committing.
My plan is to have olive eggers. My roo is a Wheaten Ameraucana and he has Welsummer and BCM hens that would throw olive egger chicks. Should, anyway. I haven't tested any of the genetic combos yet. He also has a CCL and a Black-Lavender split Ameraucana hen so that combo should be EE. And the other combos would be green egg layers. My SIL will likely have Welsummers available. We'll be running a test hatch soon.
Now that I think about it, I'm going to have to find a chicken vet to test my flock first. We've been a closed flock since the Brabanters came, but when they came I had concerns about their health. The whole flock spent time coughing but I didn't lose any birds and after a thorough coop cleaning and airing out the symptoms went away. I'd rather err on the side of caution and take one in for testing before I try to sell any chicks.... Oh bugger.... add that to the to do list.
well if you can make it I would like 3 EE and 3 OE if possible. No worries about breed or feather color just egg color and production. I love the olive color .

none hatched yet - and I can't know for sure what is a pullet or not - I am not skilled at sexing them at birth - and you can't tell by color .... so you have to know I can't guarantee a pullet - you aren't committed yet - so feel free to back out if you want ! I think you wanted 1 or 2 of each ... :)
How much would 1 of each pullet be... if you have extras ?
This chicken Eye candy is getting to me ..so I dont want too many ..
I would like to hatch some of my own if they ever go broody

Gramma - I'm not sure you should buy from me - you keep saying pullet - I keep saying I can't guarantee a pullet - because I have no skills in sexing chicks ... and the colors of my chicks are the same for cockerals and pullets - so there is no way for me to know I am getting a pullet to you until the chick is 7 to 9 months old ... and I certainly won't have any that age at chickenstock.

I just want to make sure you know what I can and can't offer - as I know some just cannot have a rooster. For local people, I say I will take back any roosters (not buy back, but will take back) and would with you too - but you are really too far to take advantage of that :)

I was planning on charging $7 for all chicks and $2 per hatching egg - no matter the breed or whatever ....

@Beer can do you have any pictures of your run with the netting you were telling me about? The more I think about it the more I'd like to do something like that but I'm having trouble visualizing.

I was just looking it up at Lowe's, guess I was wrong about $ in previous post, didn't think I paid much for it, $12 7'x100'.

Cut in half attached together with cheap small zipties. Attached to their run with pieces of clothes line. I saw similar products online at WalMart. And greenhouse/farm supplier FarmTek, they have much heavier duty and wider rolls for containing game birds like pheasant.
I was worried it would sag with snow it didn't, snow didn't stick, or maybe I got lucky this yr.
Just what I did with my small semi-portable 'breeder coop/run'. I'm sure there could be many ways to top any run, the stuffs light weight. Keeps my birds in and the bad birds out.

And what I plan on setting up for land critters before we go on vacation, stray dog etc, haven't had a problem with land predators, but I don't want to gamble anymore. I see people with similar setups for bee hives to keep bear out. You can get a ac fence charger with lots of zap and miles of fencing for under $100, and still effective with weeds and snow. I'll probably just use three strands. I'll have to move the coop up with the other big coop to cover both with electric, plan on it anyway so they have the tree line for shade.

Thanks Beer can! I'll have to think of a way to make that work with the setup I'm going to do if I can - I need to be able to walk into and stand up in the run. Plus the run is going to end up being something like 800 square feet so everybody has tons of room since free ranging won't be as much of an option any longer, so that would be an awful lot of netting. But in better news, just found out my tax refund will completely cover the electric fencing :D

So I just finally finished cleaning out the big coop after winter. It was a mess :sick I also moved an old snap lock pool out of the run that I hadn't been using with the intent of setting it up in the yard for the geese. I was just picking it up to start hosing it down when I saw movement. Apparently a very pregnant little mouse had been living under the pool and I destroyed her nest :( She was so terrified, poor little thing, and so pregnant she looked about to pop. I tried to gently coax her into a bucket so I could bring her to the abandoned barn down the road but she wouldn't go in. I actually touched her once because she was so pregnant she couldn't really run and was mostly trying to hide. She ended up slipping into my AC run and getting behind the duck trough, and I couldn't get her there because if I moved the trough I would have dumped it and probably drowned her. When I left she was still back there looking scared. I hope she finds a safe place to have her babies (that isn't my chicken coop).

@Pyxis look up bird netting pheasant runs. Many ideas on supporting bird netting covers for large areas. Poles, pvc plastic tubing, ropes, etc. Good luck.
