NY chicken lover!!!!

I'm building a coop from pallets, I'm concerned about weasels getting in. If I make all the boards are flush on the flooring should I have a problem? I plan on having it raised of off the ground.

I'm currently doing the same thing for my new coop, except that mine will have a dirt floor. I instead bought enough concrete blocks to use as a foundation that is buried roughly 12 inches down into the ground and then used treated 4x6s to put between the blocks and the pallet walls. This will keep the pallets up off the ground enough to prevent them from rotting, and also give something to attach the coop walls to. The coop is 8x12 and will have an 8x12 fenced run added to it.

If you have gaps they should be covered with hardware cloth or be a closable / Lockable window or door .
something sturdy ..Not everyone has weasels but you dont know till it is too late .

I was going to process some cockerels Sunday, but coop building took presidence over that as I had some older chicks in the basement that needed to go out. I am still building my separated pen so I can keep Roos separate from hens. I didn't think I really had that many roosters but it's a lot when they have only a few favorites. The girls have been hiding and I have been free ranging them until I finish the fence.

Well those nasty Roos somehow pecked an out out of one of my pullets. I'm just so mad:mad:

The good news is, we found a new house to rent. Not sure when we move yet. I will find out more in June. I expect sometime over the summer but it's not a rush. The new house is an 1800's farmhouse with 5 bedrooms and a lot of history. 3 acres with apple trees mulberry tree and blueberry bushes. There is even a brook in the back. Plenty of sun for a large garden.
Can you tell I'm excited! They boys love the size of the house and what will be their bedrooms, my hubby loves the property. It's a nice quiet road, everyone has property there. I can't wait!

I don't want to be the one to burst bubbles but I have to. Please make sure the house has been tested for lead. My 2 youngest got lead poisoning from an old house.
