I heard about this yesterday. I was wondering if it is someone we know from here. Please note: there are lower wattage heat lights online. 250 lights are too hot even for your brooder. IMO they should not be sold nor advised for brooding chicks.

If it is someone from here, perhaps we can work to get them back up and running with chickens. I'd be happy to donate 2 chickens to the cause.

I thought my hens had stopped laying, BUT today I notice a hen in the bale of hay, sort of nest like sitting. As it was when she moved out there were six eggs there. I thought it strange since my dels lay well in the winter. Usually.
I think the squirrels are getting in the coop but not sure. I will be setting a trap and see what happens.

Well!! I have a very odd predicament for a poultry owner. I have over 80 birds and not 1 egg to speak of. Those that are old enough to lay are fatherless and the ones who should start to lay have decided it's too cold. The rest are just too young. I didn't even realize I was low on eggs until I got an order for 3 dozen. Well they got theirs but now it looks like I'm making pancakes for breakfast not omelets. I guess that works though I somehow have way more pancake mix than I need.

So tomorrow is the big day. Silkies eggs should be hatching. 15 in lockdown but 2 looked iffy since the beginning. Also it looked like they did not loose enough moisture so I did not up the humidity until today. I do hear some peeping already. Can't wait to see what I get. I also ordered a few more silkie eggs from magnolia silkies for the hatch along.

My 16 laying hens are giving me 1 or 2 eggs per day that are usually cracked or filthy. I've salvaged a few but tossed many lately- probably tossing a dozen a week. Part of the problem is that the two cockerels and two pullets and the naked/molting hens all try to sleep in the nest boxes. I've eliminated a couple nest boxes for that reason. The three nest boxes I have open are not convenient for them to sleep in.

What is it with Silkies!?!? Those horrible things are creepy looking!! So why do I want some so bad!?!? You Silkie pushers are mean and awful..

I guess I'm getting some come spring so I get over it, I hope.

I thought the same thing about naked necks, and I love my naked necks, now my goal is to get some good quality show girls! Lol

Those funny looking buggers are on my spring shopping list as well. I would really like to get them local though, not mail order.
