NY chicken lover!!!!

@myfivegirls Love your blog! I have been known to climb trees to bring my birds down and into the coop, lol. I didn't think to put netting half way up the tree. Great idea, but must have been very challenging to get around the branches. Generally my girls dislike my pulling them out of the trees enough to get the idea & w/in a day or two go into their coop at night. Spitzes are very good fliers, even with flight feathers clipped. I'm not sure how my 4' net fence keeps them in. I'm guessing they've learned where it's safe and where they're supposed to be. Chickens are definitely much smarter than people give them credit for.

Yes, it was challenging to get the netting around the branches & had to quite a bit of trimming out the old, dead ones. It'd been easier if I just trimmed all the low branches, but wanted to let them still have fun! The one girl it only took one time, the other took 2 or 3 times! A few weeks ago, I moved them into main adult flock area & they stayed! The two hens resumed laying soon after, but are either hiding eggs or stopped again. It doesn't matter this time of year, as I'd prefer them to wait & lay eggs when I can hatch them. I've only gotten a few crosses out of the one hen & they're all been roosters! Lol
I love their "crests" & spunky personalities!

Mine still prefer the barn rafters over the coop, so every night we use the push broom under them, they step on, and we walk over and dump them in the coop. I think only 1 or 2 of the roosters decided to just go in the coop.
