Ok who started the emu talk?? This is insane. Now I'm researching birds as big as a horse. @Beer can you!! Had to get me started didn't you.. I think you should have to pay 50% of the startup cost if I end up stuck on these blasted birds!! I don't think farming is a good thing for me.

20-50 eggs a season and one place sells a 1 week old for $85.00.

Their eggs really ain't that huge either about goose egg size. I jokingly told DW I was going to reach in and snag a couple eggs that were near the fence and stash them in my pockets last time we were there Lol! :-D
Scratch that, missremembering...Emu eggs are BIG not sure if they would fit in a Hova-bator. ..
It was the Peafowl pen and eggs I was looking at :-D

Long time to hatch, 53 days I think? They probably sell good for meat. Only reason I'd want a couple would be for processing. Don't think I'd want a emu ranch Lol! Cool birds though. Used to be a ostrich farm over the hill from us yrs ago.
Might have to build a cabinet bator if you can procure hatching eggs from them.

we could build a bator. I think it would be neat for the kids to be able to say "we have an emu at home".

I'm not sure how much hubby would like me though.

It's my bucket list.. I MUST hatch an EMU!! :) I'm near Saratoga, willing to drive an hour or so if anyone can find eggs for sale. Would rather hatch after my chickens this year since the emu will take so long..
