There is always Muscovies, they don't require a pond.

I have considered them but they're fliers and I live near a creek. They will be gone the first year. I do have water, just not all the time.

Campbell's lay more than production white leghorns. Duck eggs are actually healthier. I think I heard people that are allergic to chicken eggs can eat duck eggs. The Campbell's I had laid very large eggs.

You remember my friend who couldn't eat store bought nor even Egglands Best eggs, but could eat the eggs my chickens laid. I don't know why but perhaps it's something commercial chickens are fed that mine are not. Point? Should you know someone with egg allergies they might try eggs from a small Farm and pasture fed chciekns.

Not that I'm advocating breaking the law, but nobody checks on this and no one in the post office knows about this law. It's pretty much never enforced.

Plus without opening the box, which is illegal (and they know it's illegal, lol, unlike the NPIP thing), they would never know if you were shipping birds that need to be NPIP certified unless you told them. You could be shipping pigeons for all they know.

My chickens have been loving this weather! The keep escaping their run, so I suppose I have a weekend project now. The ladies were up partying early today, even though it is windy and snowy here.

I just lost my roo. He has been acting fine, but I did notice that his wattles were a bit pale last week, but looked fine this week. I'm hoping he got into something or that it's not contagious. I don't have time this morning to investigate,but if he is were I left him where I get home, I will try to figure it out. Pretty boy, but certainly didn't know he was a boy!

My chickens are staying in the coop today. DH works overnights this week, so he needs to sleep during the day. The roosters seem to like crowing directly under our bedroom window, so they all get to stay inside. I added an extra feeder and waterer so they all have access.

I've successfully avoided ordering any hatching eggs in the past 24 hours.

I planted some seeds to prepare for garden this year.

My youngest (4 years old) was trying to decide if March started like a lamb or a lion. Yesterday, "it's a lamb day." Today, "it's a lion day." I guess mother nature is trying to keep us from trying to predict her next move.

This is why I refuse to brood chicks until April. By then all my seedlings will have started and I can switch to the grow lights. I don't want to buy another heat lamp.

if you want a roo I have a bunch just let me know. They are a good boys just need a flock.

If anyone is interested in Silkie chicks, I have 19 eggs starting to hatch. Will have partridge, black, blue for sure and maybe other colors depending on if someone else started laying. Should be very fluffy. Here are some of the hens that made these babies. Dad is a partridge roo.
