NY chicken lover!!!!

Well, the top ones aren't araucanas, if that makes a difference to you. Araucanas are tufted and rumpless, and those birds are neither. They may be ameraucanas, but to me it's not a good sign that the breeder doesn't even know what they have. Still, if you're just looking for a pullet to lay blue eggs, they'll probably do that for you.

It's still a bit early to make a for sure judgement gender wise on them because you said they're even younger than the ones you have now, which are only 12 weeks if I remember correctly. Cockerel traits like hackle and saddle feathers might not start coming in until three or four months old.

If you want to pick one of these out, go with the the one that has the smallest, thinnest, least developed comb with only one row of 'peas', and has thin legs. That would be your best shot. Honestly the comb on the bird on the bottom of the pile, under the buff, is saying cockerel to me. It's pretty wide and red for a bird less than 12 weeks old. So be cautious if you do decide to take one. EEs and Ameraucanas are hard to sex until they're older.
Thanks for the tips for physical things to look for when choosing, - quite pleased I had spotted that one had a red comb too, but was waiting to see if anyone else mentioned it - I'm learning. Checking back to the initial response - my mistake, she did say Ameraucana, not Araucana.....

Is anyone interested in taking in a mini pig? My parents adopted one since my mom has wanted one for a long time, but they are finding that a pig is not for them. They both work full time and she's getting lonely at home all alone. She needs to go to someone who is either home all the time or has another pig or other pets like dogs that will hang out with her when you are not home. She is nine weeks old, spayed, and has started clicker and target training and is doing well. She also uses a litter box and can be trained to go outside to use the bathroom if you prefer. She is a house pet and will need to live in the house, not outdoors. Fully grown she shouldn't get bigger than 50 pounds.

If anyone is interested let me know and we can discuss the details.

I might be. Let me look into it and discuss with hubby. Don't get your hopes up though. We just ended up with a kitten. But a pig would have plenty to do here between the kids and dogs. Plus I home all day.

That would be great :) Also double check to make sure a vet in your area would see her.

Chick exchange complete - Goodbye Mr Nutmeg, Hello Miss Silver, looking at the last photo I took of the male chick he really did have a major growth spurt this last week or so.
Size difference on 6.21.17.jpg

The Ameracauna seems a much better match size wise, they settled in together very quickly - bonded over some immunity improving, good bacteria boosting natural yoghurt, and some wild vine leaves. Miss Ginger is slightly smaller, but a few quick pecks in the head area were all the convincing Silver needed that Ginger is boss around here.

Thanks to all the help and advice from other members of the group, pleased to report I now know that I'm looking for rounded saddle feathers only when selecting chicks!

Its a girl - no pointed saddle feathers here.jpg
