Winter bedding anyone?? I was thinking pine and dried grass? I have a mini coop inside the bigger coop with the nesting boxes in the mini coop. I was thinking the dried grass in the big coop and pine in the mini coop? The only problem with pine is that my girls love to kick it out of the coop and kick it everywhere, and poop gets stuck on the tray! Gross..
They like burying their eggs in the grass though.. Also, should food be inside the coop (for shelter from weather) or outside the coop with a top over it (to keep rain and other things out.) Thanks guys! I'm LOVING this thread - lots of great info!

My main bedding is straw $3/small bale, but I do supplement with pine needles, dried leaves, dry grass clippings. Make sure that whatever you add is as dry as possible, you don't want mold spores in your coop - it can cause respiratory problems for the birds.
