NY chicken lover!!!!

How large is your flock? I have 2 cockerels and 9 pullets with absolutely no room or desire to increase the flock size.

My two boys have been sparring since 3 weeks old. The bouts are getting more frequent. No one is getting hurt. Dex always comes out on top. I think that's just because he currently outweighs Fabio. I have seen Fabio routinely tuning up the girls so I think he may be better at maintaining flock peace and may ultimately take over when he catches up to Dex in the size department. They only spar when free-ranging.

.
Boys will do ..that ..size each other up early . Long as Fabio remains submissive to To dex it will stay the same .
If you dont have a problem ..I wouldnt try to change it ..

Hi there. Not sure how many of you are in the upstate area. But we have been dealing with a lot of flooding. Here are a couple pix of my friend’s coop. They had to relocate the birds until the water levels go down. Anyone else dealing with this mess? If so, be safe!!!!

I'm going to wait it out and see how things go. I didn't plan on two cockerels but I now have them. If they can keep the peace after the hormones start flying, I'll keep both. But I have a contingency plan if they don't.

We have flooding in the areas around us. We are up on a hill but still had rivers flowing across our property. We built our coop/run area on a high spot and it stayed out of their paths.

Hopefully the water will drop soon and your friends can get their birds back in their home.

Coop 2.0 construction is well underway. My main coop will now be the 16x8 run, we added 8x8 on the west end with windows hinged at the top that can be closed in bad weather, we left the ends open so I can walk through and will but a half door in to teach Silkies to stay in there instead of roosting in the nestboxs, grr. Next is a 4x8 “broody bungalow” on the east end for nest box and brooder this will be completely open to the run area. Hopeing this set up will solve the humidity issues I had last winter by not having to plastic the open windows.

Oh no. Thought and prayers that you guys are ok and not too much damage. I’m up north we are getting rain but hopefully no flooding here in the foothills of the Adirondacks.

The poor Babies they look like wet sardines..
The most problem I have with the rain is my gates get wet and swell and are hard to close . I have pressboard hanging over them currently ..would like a more permanent solution

do you trap them? Jw because I have a ton around
Mostly live trap. The last one that I got was a pain in the butt. I had him in the trap 3 times and he broke the trap each time getting out. I was mad! I talked to a guy at my feed store and he told me about a poison that "drops them with in 15 feet". I set some in the trap and the raccoon busted out again and then dropped dead about 18 feet from the trap. I hate to use poison, but this guy was causing me to do some major repairs where he was trying to get into one of the coops.
