I have one hen that goes broody every year....she is such a great mother. She raised my lavenders and split lavenders. How are you little wheatens/blue wheatens doing? I think I have 5 roos and one pullet. I have one splash roo and a blue wheaten pullet, the rest look like wheaten roos...I'll try to get a picture up later.
Another poster from NY. I am smack dab in the middle of the state. I live in Central NY, Schuyler Lake to be exact. Most people understand where when I say that I am 10 minutes North of Cooperstown.
This is my first winter with chickens & I was very worried about my girls & boys in a NY winter. I had to convince my mother that chickens were surviving NY winters loooonnnngggg before the invention of the light bulb and that mine didn't need additional heat to survive. So far so good!
It's nice to see that there are other NY'ers here.
She is not sitting on anything yet but some eggs from the coop that she went broody on. I though about letting her have some duck eggs but I am trying to downsize on the ducks so that is prolly not a good idea
The chicks are doing great other then the fact that they dislike me
It seems like no matter how much they are handled (and its alot trust me!) they are afraid. Im pretty sure that I have 3-4 roos out of the group. There is one that I am still on the fence about..... The little special chick is a girl I am pretty sure....Im glad because I really wanted to keep her.
And for anyone who is interested....I am going to be over run with chicks pretty shortly. I have a broody that is due this weekend, eggs due in 2 weeks out of the bator and now this broody and some will have to go. All are pure Buff Orps or Buff Orp/Red Star crosses. PM me for info...Pick up only, not interested in shipping.
Hello to all!...I'm not that far from many of you. I just wanted to mention that I have some very nice breed/Show Quality Roo's I'm looking to re home. Several different breeds, all are bantam! If any one is looking to improve their flock or just keep a bantam roo as a pet, please PM me. There are pics on the link below.....Thanks,Chris https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=298025
Here they are...some eye candy. These (the green arrowed ones)are wheaten/blue wheaten ameraucanas I from hatched from pips&peeps. They are gorgeous little things. Now I am pretty good at determining gender of other peoples birds but when it comes to mine....I sit and stare at them and change my mind every minute. I guess it's like being on a game show... So here's my guesses for 1-6. The others are project birds and the 2 little ones are wheatens from my stock.
Again green arrows are the ameraucanas.. They will be 3 weeks old Friday.
1. cockerel (Splash Wheaten) has a very wide comb with 3 distinctive rows
2. pullet (blue wheaten)
3. cockerel (wheaten)
4. cockerel (wheaten)
5. cockerel (wheaten)
6. cockerel (wheaten)

How do you sex ameraucanas, I have 3 about 4 weeks old and 6 more eggs. I should do a photo shoot, but I'm having trouble uploading the pics into this site. I should have my daughter help me.
