Very nice, where did you purchase the hen? Hope you get tons more.

Rancher

All my birds are Bev Davis. I started 4 or 5 years ago with eggs from her.

I've been breeding within that group selectively since then for type and egg color. Last year and now this year so far, I'm getting the darkest eggs ever. I don't set any less than a 5 & up. I've got some 6+ eggs isn the incubator now, that is why I was so distraut over the power outage on Sunday night..

I'm eating eggs that are dark enough to set, but want to get more consistancy in the color at this point so I'm being very picky.

Hey Muggs

Is it you that has NH hens, Dominique hen, and Jersey Giant trio posted on craigs list? I saw the one picture and it looked like one from your colorful layer egg auction here on BYC and I was curious.

Beautiful color! My 2 FBCM hens lay a really dark egg. Where would you get the Marans color chart?

By the way, love your blog page!

The Marans Chicken Club sells them, and I am the treasurer so I send them out.
Its $6 for 2 cards. We figure one for the coop & one for the house. If you want one you can send a paypal to: [email protected]
or send a check to me. If you want to send to me, let me know and I'll pm you my address.

Thanks, I started the blog last year, kinda let it go, and decided I'd try to keep it up now.

Thanks for the info Sue!

It looks like quite of few of the week into incubating didn't make it. I think I threw out 1/3 of the eggs today after candeling.....8-(

But, put my 18 days eggs into the hatcher and did something I've never done before. I realized that the hen that laid that dark egg, had been laying and her eggs were getting progressively darker & bigger, so I decided I didn't want to get anyother chicks mixed up with those, so I tossed about 15 developing eggs, not that dark, into the trash.....Oh well, I hope the eggs I kept hatch....

Sorry about your other eggs. I have eggs that I REALLY want to put in the bator (lots of Lav Ameraucanas) and other developing eggs that I really don't care for are taking up the extra room in the bator. I just can't bring myself to do this yet.
