NY chicken lover!!!!

Hi everyone!! My son is looking to buy 2 bunnies, with his own $ from doing chores!!! I can't seem to find any close by? My truck gets 8miles to the gallon eeeek so they have to be close! Does anyone know anyone selling or have any of their own for sale?

I know someone that has Lionhead/Netherland Dwarf baby bunnies (4 weeks old now?) here in Voorheesville - I think 3 hours away from you though.

to all the new eggs

My girls are laying 2 eggs a day.

The silkie's poo problem seems to be resolved...must have been the water change. Poo still stinks, but then so does our water sometimes.

Annie's 4 are wonderful, until you open the top of the brooder. OMG, escape artists.

Anyone have any ideas on what to do with chicks that are growing so fast you have no place to put them? And I have 7 more chicks coming sometime in the near future. I am soooo in trouble for space.

Hahahha I have the same problem. I need to stop hatching! I have a coop that's half done, so my almost 6 week olds are still in the barn. Gave away 12 of them last week but still have 25 or so, plus my five OE's that need a decent place to sleep other than the barn and the tractor coop. Plus I have broodies! Ack!

Still pondering on the cheapest way to make a huge run without skill.. Cattle panels? PVC? Hmmm..

Oh, and I keep trying to let my OE's out to enjoy the nice weather, but my other chickens will jump in their coop and try to eat their food.. thus scaring the babies. /sigh. As if my older chickens are starving.. riiight..

Ok, whining over. LOL.

Do you know where and when? We would love to get a buck and doe!! He just raised chicks and sold them and made 26$!! He took care of them the whole time!! I double checked, but I told him if he did all the work the $ was all his=P Didn't take much for him to figure that out!! I see your from redcreek!! I have family there, and family in fairhaven. Love the area!! Thanks for the help!!

My suggestion would be for him to find a breeder, esp if he is thinking about raising them for sale.

I'd ask him what his plans are, does he want to raise rabbits for pets, rabbits for meat, check out the ARBA website for the different rabbit breeds.

Auctions are going to be hit or miss for quality, lots of "mutt" bunnies there, or they will label them as something and they're sooo very far from the breed
standard.

If I bought at an auction, I would skip young bunnies under 6 weeks, you want to look for slightly younger ones. Skip the older ones, they are there for a reason.
Bridgeport will let you go thru the boxes (or get there early and sit up front) You want to do a basic health check on anything you buy, check for poop butt, nasal discharge,
Run your hand down its back and check to see if its spiney.

The Bath auction is this weekend and lots of rabbit breeders send their "extras" there, probably going to be a step above what you might find at Bridgeport, I'll be there if anyone would like me to
give them a lesson on what to look for.
