NY chicken lover!!!!

Hello everyone, I live near Hornell in WNY and just recently got back into chickens after not having any for 25 years. I am looking for another batch of hatching eggs but I am hesitant to have them shipped so I am looking for a source or sources that I can drive to get them. My first hatch I got Speck. Sussex, SLW, and a couple GLW. I am looking for large fowel but other then that I am willing to try about anything. I have a soft spot for many of the heritage breeds and the dark egg layers also. I would be willing to drive anywhere between Buffalo and Syracuse as I am just about in the middle. You can PM me or email me at [email protected].

I also live near you, in Freeman (Tuscarora). And, I have a friend just up the road who has many different types of chickens, chicks and eggs for hatching. She also has ducks. I have purchased GLW's and BO's from her this spring. She also has hamburgs, leghorns, barred rocks, SLW's, light brahmas... others I can't remember. She just hatched 35 or so and is expecting 50 more anyday. I have 20 blue ameraucanas and 8 bantam mottled black cochins in the incubator, 6 eggs under a pair of my broody hens that will be a mix of BO and buff brahma bantams (due approx 5/21), and a pair of the same mix that hatched 2 weeks ago. Too cute with their fuzzy feet!

If you're interested in contacting my friend about her chicks and eggs, just let me know and I'll pass on her info. I don't believe she is on BYC. Always happy to find more "chicken folks" close to me. You know, fellow enablers!

Did you happen to go to the Twin Tiers Poultry Club auction yesterday at the fairgrounds in Bath? SOOOOO many birds!

I did not get a chance to go probably a good thing. I was trying to get the new pasture in for the girls ponies before the rain. If your friend is Jonelle I bought my wyandotte hatching eggs from her she is realy nice and I had great hatch rate from her eggs. This site has been a great help getting back into chickens so many helpfull people and it is good to see some local people on here. I can see it is going to be way to easy to get into tons of chickens, especialy since my wife and daughters seem to be completely addicted to hatching eggs.

LOL! Yes, it's Jonelle. We live within walking distance from each other. Enablers should not be allowed to live so close to each other!

Maybe we will see you at the small animal auction in Corning on the 22nd. 8>

Had a great time at the Bath auction yesterday! (Any reports from the Bridgeport auction?) Got there a little after 3am and was about 15 in line. I gotta say being pregnant and at an auction kinda sucks, If I sat too long, my butt hurt, if I stood too long, my feet hurt! My wonderful hubby did my AM chores and when he saw I couldn't walk when I got home, he did my PM chores too!

Sales for me were not bad, I really WISH that they would take the stuff out of the boxes, none of it was too young to not be out of the box and I am sure would have sold better if they could have seen all of them! I don't bring young stuff for just that reason and it annoys the heck out of me! So next years notes include putting stuff into boxes that cannot FIT into the coops! Sigh. One of my friends is going to come over this week and help me go thru the other 25 Runners so I can put together my breeding pen instead of having to grow them out for another three months!

It was nice to see people and meet new people! There were a TON of people there, I left just before 7 and they still had a good two rows or more of stuff to sell, I just could not stand anymore!

I got a batch of Call eggs for the Buff duck that was nesting and lost all her eggs (too soon in the season I think, they were bad in the incubator too) and of course, she's decided she's done. Guess I will see if I can kill (errr, hatch) them myself.

I managed to PU a Call drake for my hen, only I had to get 5 other calls with it! :O Anyone need a white Call drake? I have a spare now...

And oh, the Silkies I bought!

I took pictures and they just do not do them justice. The hen is really really nice (I think its a young pullet actually) but I only got the hen because it came with the best Silkie Rooster I have ever seen. I saw them put that Rooster in the coop and it was coming home with me! I think its the most I have ever paid for anything at an auction (cuz I'm a huge bargain auctioner, LOL) Jeff knows the breeder who brought them and he said the breeder told him he paid $400 for the Silkie Rooster last year! (I dunno from who) and had already gotten what he needed out of him I guess. The breeder also brought to die for white Cochins too! I didn't bid on those but boy, was I tempted.

I came home and locked up my new Silkies so nothing will eat them!

White Rooster, He looks just stunning in person, I take terrible pictures!

White Hen, I couldn't get her to stand up for her picture!

I enjoyed the Bath auction also. It was the first time I had been there for that, but I must say that I, also wished they would take alot of the birds out of the boxes so they could be seen. And it doesn't help to grab one quickly out of the box right at the moment it's being auctioned because you have don't have time to see it ahead of time, decide if you want to bid on it and make your way around the chaotic circle to actually be seen trying to bid! There was alot of darn running around that circle! And when they DID actually move the birds out of boxes or cages, some of the handlers were unnecessarily rough, I thought. I would've been less than happy if I had animals there for sale.

That being said, I'm looking forward to the Small Animal Auction in Corning on the 22nd. Hope to see lots of my BYC neighbors there!
