Yes 16 are shipped Buckeye eggs. I paid extra to have them express shipped. They were at my house in23 hours from Kentucky. Since express mail is accountable mail I hope for a greater hatch rate. We shall see! Will keep you posted

They are tiny living beings and feelings for them is good, keeps us close to what we care for.

Worked all day wednesday on my garden and got burned to a crisp while DH worked in the coop. Had to take advantage of the one day of my vacation that I had a babysitter. I'm tired but feeling satisfied. DH ran new wire for new lights and outlets so we can move young stock out of the house. Every time my mother is over she has some comment about the chicks being in the house.
Hope everyone else was able to take advantage of what little good weather we've had lately.

Ugh, all my 'used to cold weather' chickens are panting. They have plenty of shade, lots of water, pans of water to stand in, etc. And it's only going to get hotter. I think I'm going to end up losing some of the big girls if they can't even handle mid 80's.

Could you set up something like a lawn sprinkler for them to run under? Back in the day my pigs were really suffering in the heat and I tied a garden hose to a post like a pig shower and they got a lot of relief from it. Just like kids running through a sprinkler. Then any little bit of breeze would cool them off. They don't need to be soaking wet, just somewhat damp.

For rabbits you freeze a gallon jug of water for them to snuggle up to and that sucks away some heat, too. Maybe a few of those in a sheltered enclosed area to have a dark/cool place to chill out. Sounds like hillbilly air conditioning. I used to have a fan that you poured water in and it cooled the air by blowing over the water and evaporating.

I have a mister I will try to get working tomorrow. Last year I didn't have problems until it got REALLY hot (95+) - then I broke out the water bottles and frozen watermelon, but geeze, at 85 you'd think they'd be ok. /grumble

I was out cleaning pens and my birds are all panting too.

I don't blame the chickens

It seems like we go from winter to summer the last few years with hardly any transition time (spring) to adjust. I've been panting and sweating, too.
