NY chicken lover!!!!

If you want them let me know. I will only bring if someone says they want them. I'll be there all day and don't want tohave to try to keep them warm for that long a time although if this weather keeps up, it won't be a problem.

What are the chances of my chosing 5 roosters out of a group of 8 assorted chicks? The more I look at these silkies the more I think I have at least 4 roosters and one aggressive hen. Sheesh.

*mutters to self* And what have we learned from all this? Don't buy chickens from someone you don't know, right? RIGHT?

Anyone in the upstate NY area (Saratoga) have 3-4 hens available for sale? We're not too picky about breed, just looking for ones between 1/2 and 1 year old laying eggs. If so, please msg me with details!

Silkies take FOREVER to guess on gender, at least mine did. I rehomed them at four months old and I still didn't know what gender they were. The people I sold them to, who supposedly raised silkies, insisted that all of them were hens, but I was positive at least two, if not more, were roos and told em that. Wonder what happened.

I don't have any hens of laying age. Wish I could help. Maybe Featherz or the person in Johnstown (who's name I can't remember at the moment) will be able to help you out.

How old are your pullets and what breeds? They can start laying as young as 16 weeks...but 20 is more probable.

Personally I would never buy adult chickens ever again. Kinda gun shy on buying chicks even. But I think my case is unusual, with the number of problems I have had.

Remember to isolate them for a month after you get them so you DON"T have some of the problems I have been having.

Oh wonderful. So have to keep these stupid chickens until they lay eggs or crow? And how am I gonna know which one laid an egg? They will probably just do it on the floor, cuz they aren't smart enough to get in a nest box. *note to self* Put that extra nest box you were gonna return to TSC on the floor for the silkies to lay in.

Have you tried the auction/for sale section of the forum? That's where/how I found the breeder I dealt with. PM'd her cuz of her auction and set up a private buy. She was in NY...but not upstate...Saw the Statue of Liberty in the distance, I think, when I went to get my birds.

I am also in saratoga county and have tons of chicks and teens (9 weeks old) that I'd be willing to part with, but nothing I want to sell that's laying now unless you want a really beat up looking year old SLW. LOL. I'd love to rehome her because she's the only one that hates my roo and consequently he wants her all the more. 12 girlfriends and she's the only one wearing a hen saver. But she's a grouch and has ugly lacing, so she's more than likely stuck with me.

I saw an ad in CL within the last few days of someone selling 20 week old red sex link hens. Not sure off hand if it was glens falls or albany CL.
