NY chicken lover!!!!

I have a speckled sussex chick that I was wondering if some one would want for free.
I will be going to lovinstock on the 25th. its 2 weeks old or so now.

it is a special needs chick. right now its with others its own age. it eats and drinks and gets along fine.
no pain. it either has a spine/hip problem or it has a leg longer than the other. no curled toes etc.

I dont know what to do with it... I just now I cant keep it.

I wont be able to put it in with my large flock of layers this fall.

someone please adopt it.

I was sooo worried. I opened the coop door and was stampeded by chickens. And the Nest box, with the eggs in it, was EMPTY. I chased and caught all the d'uccles (or so I thought) looking for the one with the naked chest to put her back on the eggs. I couldn't find her. I have 4 look alike birds and I caught about 7 of them. NONE of them were the right one. So I gave up, threw up my hands (literally) and went to water the garden. When I came back there was a hen sitting on the eggs. IF I had left the birds alone she probably would have gone back sooner. The eggs were still warm, so I am still hoping they hatch. And I won't chase any more chickens. Just makes them laugh at me anyway, so why waste my breath?

Heather, one of the girls laid the tinest egg today. I think it is smaller than a robin's egg. It's so cute I want to keep it forever. I may blow it out, if that is possible and keep it in a bowl.

Annie, the chicks you gave me are looking GREAT. Houdini is a roo and has wonderful colors. The Assistant has a strawberry blonde neck and tiny spots on her body feathers. They were the chipmonk chicks. The white/yellow chicks are all white with some black or dark gray at the end of some of their feathers. Rowdy Roo has ONE red spot on his side. Not sure what that is about, but I know it isn't blood, wrong color red and no evidence of injury. It appears I have 2 pairs of matching chickens from the 4. Thank you so much for such lovely birds. I will bring pics in August so you can see how nicely they feathered out.

Now what kind of chickens will hatch from brown eggs? Large to xl eggs. One has spots on it.

Don't stress too much - my broodies were always getting off the eggs - one was sitting on fake eggs because I kept trying to decide if she was going to stay broody - I threw chicks I hatched under her after two weeks of broodiness and she kept them! the other chicken was off for an hour at a time and all her eggs hatched just fine.

That's gotta be cute!!

I just put my big roo up on CL - he's crowing nonstop from 3AM (!!!!) all the way to dusk, plus he keeps attacking my legs. Doesn't hurt a bit and he only does it about once a day, but I have four roos (two of which are his kids) waiting to take his place. My funny story - my roo flew at my legs again yesterday, but as I always wear my high rubber boots and he has no spurs, it didn't hurt me. He's too fat to get much higher, it seems.. but my little brown easter egger HEN jumped up in front of him, puffed up and backed him off! She defended me (or so it appeared). Now that's a first! He's an excellent flock protector, doesn't injure his girls other than my one biatchy one wearing a saddle and is USUALLY a nice guy. I'd probably put up with the leg thing, but the crowing is gonna make my neighbors hate me, even in this farm area. I even caught him making a nest for one of my new layers and scootching around in it to show her where to lay. So cute!

Getting back into the loop after a big move last Thanksgiving weekend. 6 months now and things are settling in but I have only 5 chickens. I am searching for a black with white crest Polish youngsterPULLET only please.... to replace my favorite bird "Dinner". She died in a terrible accident 1 1/2 years ago and now I am ready for a new girl to hopefully fill her void.I am at the most Southern tip of NY State......I can jump into the water between me and NJ and swim the breach I am so far south.

If you are in my vicinity I'd love to hear from you. I am 3 minutes from the Outerbridge crossing.
Thanks in advance,
Maggie

Cass--thanks for the advice. I have given her poly vi sol 4 times today mixed in with some oatmeal and yogurt. vitamin e only once and b once. I put rooster booster in the waterer for the other chicks as she has been separated from them and is sleeping in a box in the livingroom where I can keep an eye on her. I have been feeding her every two hours and making her drink some. Its terrible watching her poor little neck and head twist up and turn under. I have been gently pulling it out and supporting it with one of my socks wrapped around her neck. I hope she gets better soon and that none of the others start. She trills when I hold her. Going to be a long week if it doesnt show improvement soon! More eggs for her tomorrow morning. I guess its a waiting game.

I have 2 blue silkie boys who need homes. They were hatched in april and I can see tiny red wattles on them. I have too many boys and so they must go. They are from Simplysplendidsilkies and are gorgeous. If anyone is interested, please let me know. I will post pics of them later. Thought I would offer them to my fellow byc'ers before I cl them. Not sure of price but we can talk!

Thanks guys, I went for a ride. Horse was very lazy, but it kept my mind off of chicks hatching( though not fast enough!!) I will try to sleep tonight. I must confess that I went in and picked up an egg and it cheeped, so I quickly put it back> i felt better and hope I did no harm. At what point should I interfere? If I should interfere?

and #8 is Broody. That's 8 out of 10 Sumatra hens broody so far. I've only let 6 sit....as the others were in unsafe spots. And one of them" lil blue" I had to break TWICE. More broody chicks on the way! Once I remove her golfball tomorrow when she gets up to do her angry broody dance
