NY chicken lover!!!!

Just sprinkles here, but enough for me to put off letting the chickens out and CLEANING THE COOP...like I need an excuse to put off cleaning the coop.

If it rains harder the weeds in the garden will be easier to pull, so that's a plus.

Ugh. My weeds are outta control this year. My weed whacker isn't working right and I have a lot of land to weed. Managed to get a bit done yesterday before the heat set in. Nice and sunny here now, no rain. I need to clean one coop also, but it's the one everyone HAS to lay in, so I have to wait until the long nest box line goes away.

(All these fancy nest boxes I bought/built and they ALL want to lay in the 'warehouse store' box with a towel over it that I had as an emergency box.

One roo gone. But the only way I could get her to take it was to take 2 of her roos that she didn't think should be "rehomed". Since I planned to eat my extra roos, seemed like a win - win for both of us.

So I processed them instead of quarentining them for 30 days. We did ok . It took a little over an hour to do both birds. We'll get better at it as we do it more.

She took the really big (and I mean HUGE) silkie roo. I'm sure he was eating more than the normal sized ones, so I am glad to have him gone. Right now the other silkies are waiting for him to lead them into the coop. I hope that they figure out the way in before dark without their "leader".

I still have 3 roos that need to go. Sweet birds, just too numerous.

We are getting drenched and I'm not complaining. I just sat in the car until it slowed some before getting out with my groceries. My silly chickens were out in it instead of going back into the coop.

I planned to clean up the chicken yard, but the rain got in my way...

That's the story I'll use

I have 4 roosters i need to process in the next week or so, but I hate to drag out all the stuff for just 4, so I'm taking in stray boys and doing them all at once.

I'm also plotting my switch to the nipple watering system. I have two buckets right now, but I'm wondering what will happen in the winter- when the nipples freeze...
