I heard folks have used duct tape but being a NN she is horribly with out feathers...duct tape on skin?! The funny thing is I never see a rooster near her?! I did buy her that way...she hasn't gotten better and lays a good size egg..I just want her to have feathers...I am going out now with the duct tape...wish her luck...

good luck to both of you!!

Well she has black duct tape on her...again she did the "army crawl" and last I knew it was still on...I thought I should wrap her whole body but didn't..

I have thought of that too, but in the end I figure that it can't be that comfortable! They do act funny with aprons and such!Try not to laugh at them to hard though. i am afraid to give them PTSD.....

I just went and checked on her...she is not a happy bird...but the tape is still on...I just hope her feathers grow fast...

I'm in minor "argh" mode. Alan said this evening that the Polish cockerel, Leopold, is becoming somewhat aggressive towards him, pecking at him when he touches the pullets. I told him that this will NOT do, and that he needs to nip that garbage in the bud as of yesterday, as it's a show of dominance that I absolutely will not tolerate from any bird.

I have at least four and maybe five cockerels (Tina Turner, the other Polish, is looking rooish again as of late - I'll know if he/she crows!), so I need to thin the ranks by at least a couple of males shortly, whether by Craigslist or the Schuylerville auction or freezer camp. I'd rather not have to get rid of Leopold, as he's a perfectly respectful little gentleman towards me and towards the pullets, and I like him and his crazy "hair" and his goofy "doodle-doo" crow. I won't put up with any human-aggressive rooster, though. I'm having Alan try behavior modification techniques such as stalking him and picking him up before I exercise the nuclear option - fingers crossed that this works!

Yes and No..from what I understand you let the tape fall off on its own. The first time I saw it used was a breeder of BCM and she swears by it...will let you know..The saddles were not working and she needs feathers..

I have found, that by the time the feathers are growing in, that the duct tape under the new growth is no longer sticky. The tape will start to fall off by itself. When it sufficiently unsticks itself I check for feathers. I will gently pull off the remaining tape, apply de (as I worry more about parasite infestation as she cannot preen under it), and apply new tape. For the bird that won't wear an apron, this has worked well.

I had a polish roo and it attacked me one day when i was out feeding the girls.

I had the feed bowl and i protected myself with it. I held it out like a shield.

He jumped up full force into the bowl - smacked his head against it- then fell to the ground twitching.

I thought he killed himself.

It took him 5-10 min but he came out of his "daze".

Then i sold him the very next day.

He was pretty but I didn't need to be attacked every day nor my daughter when she helped me with the chickens.

It could be because they can't see as well and he just attacked anything above him because he was protecting his girls.

but I wouldn't tolerate a mean or unpredictable roo.
