Here's some pics of my yard. In pic 3 you can see jugs of feed that I like to put inside the run so I don't have to carry feed to the coop every day. Repackaging it to cleaned out cat food jugs saves me time and work. I can't lift bags of feed. Pic 6 has tools for the yard cuz the runs do double duty. pic 7 shows the front of the run which I will cover when the snow flies. I cover all my runs so the birds can go out and get some fresh air. Nothing is sealed up tight. Just enough to keep the snow out. Pic 9 and 10 show the thermometer and new exterior nest box. And of course pics of my BR rooster. Pic 1 shows the hoses that I run to the garden for watering and filling water jugs during the warmer weather.

I don't vaccinate (knock on wood), although I have a few vaccinated chickens mixed in that were vaccinated at the hatchery. Just got my big $200 delivery from Agway today so I have LOTS of pine shavings to use for deep litter this winter. That's all I did last winter, worked pretty well. Leghorns got a bit of frostbite, but no tips lost - my straight combed roo lost a few tips. Everyone else including the d'uccle pullets did fine. The d'uccles were in a plywood trailer coop that has big open spots just covered with hardware cloth.

Speaking of the agway pine shavings - anyone notice the tractor supply bundles keep getting smaller and looser with no change in price? Hmm.. Agway's cost a few cents more but they are nice and heavy and bulky, the way the TSC ones used to be. Might just be MY tsc, not sure.

Grey - it has. I found it tossed in the wood and dragged it out to convert it to a topiary.

I had some frostbite last year. The hens seem to do fine. I've done the vaseline job but it didn't help much.

I probably should have waited to take pics since I mowed the yard afterward and all the leaves are gone. I use a bagger and tossed some in the runs for the birds to pick through. Others I used for mulch around trees and berry bushes.

vaseline did NOTHING for me.. they still got the frostbite and my white leghorns rolled around in the dirt and looked like they were covered in mud for months. Not much I could do - not going to bathe them mid winter so I figured the dirt would keep away the frostbite. Didn't hurt them but was embarrassed for anyone to see them!

well just got home with the new birds were were only goning to buy one trio but came home with 3 trios and a pair of pea chicks, lol i think we have an addiction. they are only 4 months old and have long hackle feathers allready, cant wait to see them when they are full grown!!! well here are the pics as promised!

they are so much more beautiful in person!!!
