NY chicken lover!!!!

Henicillin...sorry about the job. I am having the same luck with getting a teaching job. My daughter has started pharmacy school so I am hoping that things will be better when she gets finished in 5 years!

Mumbles, my black silkie rooster, went to his new home yesterday. I was very sad to see him go and miss him. However, his new owner is a very nice guy who raises chickens and treats them well so I am happy about that. The other 4 silkies seem a little lost without him. I hope little man is up to the job as head roo now. He is certainly much nicer to the girls.

Off to the airport to pick up my daughter (the wannabe pharmacist) who is coming home for christmas break. Her sisters and I cant wait to see her and have her here. I hate this whole empty nest thing. Maybe thats why I want more chickens!!!

Dismal day people. At least its rain and not snow. Rancher, hope you are doing okay with this nasty weather. I know it makes the joints protest.

It is a dismal day. Maybe I can get some c
hristmas shopping done and then finish mending horse blankets. Then maybe get my bedroom curtains started. Feels way to grey to be that motivated.......Got some beef burgundy started though!! (it is really beef cabernet because I found a big bottle that had gone "off"). Put it over some kale(still from my garden!) garlic mashed potatoes. Yup!It is that kind of day!! Time to work on making the butt bigger and the muffin top flop over a little more!!!

Sorry about the job, Henicillin.

Yes, it is a dreary day, people, but.......

WE HAVE A NEW ARRIVAL!! After about three weeks of our Silkies sitting on a pile of eggs, we have the first new arrival!

Should be more coming in the next few days! (They are sitting on 13 eggs now, I think.) This is our first hatched baby. It was a very exciting morning. Went out to the coop to feed this morning and thought I heard some little cheeps. Sure enough!!

It's a wonderful profession, but a tight job market at the moment. That appears to be the case with pretty much everything, though.

I went out to the coop a few minutes ago to bring the kids some leftover salad mix, and saw a big Cooper's hawk fly across my yard and land in one of the neighbor's pines. It's a gorgeous bird, and poses no real threat to the chooks, as they're in a covered run and it preys primarily on songbirds and small mammals in any case. I had to laugh, though - because the birds are hanging around in the coop today, the roos missed out on their chance to be heroic and alert everyone to the presence of an actual raptor instead of sparrows and finches.

I have about ten things that need doing, and I lack the ambition to do any of them. Rain, rain, go away!
