NY chicken lover!!!!

Heni-if you don't really want her, have the parts delivery guy call out to the shop and ask if they want her back on the next delivery. On the other hand Leghorns lay huge eggs and lots of them.

I know! I'd feel bad too. I know that chickens are just livestock to some people, and that's completely okay, but they are pets to others. I wonder if you can call the farm and explain? I know if that happened to one of my chickens, I'd drive the 100 miles to get her back in a heartbeat.
Then again the farm owner(s) might just say, well ain't that something! You can keep her. It's hard to say!

yup, I'd call the farm. I know I would want the same respect if my chicken took a ride. I'd be worried for her like crazy if she were mine and gone

You could get a goat. On a P Allen Smith show I saw one of the people he visited in a suburban area kept 2 or 3 goats and made her own cheese. It would give you your own supply of raw milk.

Tab's chicken obsession :

Yummy! Goat's milk cheese.

I won't debate the question of whether to return the chicken or not, but think of it this way...whenever you lose a chicken now, instead of thoughts of doom that a predator must have taken it, you can calm your mind with thoughts that it may be backpacking across the country (or Europe, for that matter) spreading its wings (sorry for the pun).

Just dropping in,

Heni - great story but not surprised. Chickens can do some crazy things. Had my Bro. drop off a hen in a box with and egg mind you. He left it in the garage. I told him I didn't want her. She was found in the yard of a friend of his who has pigeons in pretty much downtown Syracuse. I immediately posted her on CL and she was gone that afternoon.

Of course you'll want to notify the farmer just as you would if she was yours. Me? I say keep her and good luck.

You must have seen the books about the chicken "Minerva Louise?" If not check them out.

Meeps - I am sorry for your trouble. Things like this can seem magnified at this time of year. What with all the pressure of the Holiday. Your health comes first dear. The rest can wait. If it is the Gall bladder they are easily removed these days. Bad gall bladders are like crying babies in church. They need to be taken out.

Now I do like the eggs. Have you posted them for sale on here? I'll have to take a look.

Everyone take care and enjoy the weather. Gives us time to do a few more things before the snow sets in. IF it sets in , cuz I've been praying for now snow this winter.

ta, ta for now,

Rancher
