NY chicken lover!!!!

Tab's chicken obsession :

Good news! My DH called me at work to tell me Blue Boy had turned up in the coop when he went to close up. He looked like he had gotten into a fight with another bird. I'm just happy he's home.

featherz- I'm praying for a recovery for your bird or some strong signs of it.

My girls are excited that it's snowing this morning. "We can go make snow angels mommy!" I had to tell them that there wasn't enough for that yet, unless they wanted mud angels.

Tab's chicken obsession :

I did it again. The above post is from me.

As for the bird, she is about the same. The face/comb lesions appear a BIT better, but she's still having trouble with the throat lesions. My DH keeps begging me to give her another chance, so I spent about an hour this morning with her on my lap, peeling pox out of her mouth (yes, I am a nurse and for the sake of science I thought it worth a try). It helped a LITTLE (she fell asleep on my lap and I was sure she was just gonna die like that, so I sat there for a while thinking that would be a nice way to go).. but then she woke up and wanted outta there.

I can't do anything about lesions further down, so I am reasonably sure this is just postponing the inevitable. If she's in distress again, I'll just have to do the deed (DH won't do it for me).

I think/hope the rest of the older flock may be immune. We had a lot of mosquitoes this and last summer and last and so far I see no pox on anyone else.

as for the weather.. rainy and windy here. no snow.

It's windy and spitting a few snowflakes here, but still not terribly cold. Most of the chooks are hanging out in the playroom half of the coop picking apart their alfalfa bale and digging in the litter for scratch. Not Rosco the alpha roo, though - he's being a noisy cuss today and letting the wind know who's boss.
