NY chicken lover!!!!

The blue stuff I use is called Blue-Kote, I bought the pump bottle and the sprayer dosen't work for me. Cotton balls. IT STAINS! I had DD hold a hen, put it on her comb and she shook her head like a dog. DD and I had blue speckles on our faces for a few days. It was summer and we have a pool. DAYS! Rubber gloves and watch out. I would put the hen in at night and try to be out early in the am when they all wake up to keep an eye on things. Good luck!

I have not had good luck with blue kote for pecking and have had a similar experience with the pump bottle. The spray can works better and is worth a try.

First the Blue Kote, I too found it messy. However I remembered a time when DD used spray on tanning stuff and ended up with orange legs. Very funny. She was in tears. Ok cruel but funny. She used shave cream, my shave cream to get it off. So I used it on the Blue Kote on my hands. It didn't take it completely off but worked decent enough.

I'm working on getting that recipe for you all. I don't like Quiche nor spinach but I do like the pie. That it uses eggs isn't bad either.

Got my eggs from GA today and all are intact. CR eggs. Will set with mine as a control group.

Glass - is there enough snow down there?

Sorry...but we NEVER had chickens and a friend from Albany gave us our Silkies. We have 16 hens and get 6 to 9 eggs daily. Enough for us.

We had Call Ducks for many years and when our friend asked us if we wanted chickens...we said yes. We knew very little about chickens and we are learning.

We did hatch 4 of our Silkie Eggs. AND yes we would NOT butcher and eat them (black skin).

I am going to post a photo of the inside of our Barn....don't think we have room for more Chickens?

No offense but you still don't.

Now if you decide to get some "real" chickens, I just got some eggs for hatching delivered today and you know what that means? It means I have bubble wrap and a box to ship eggs. If you want some eggs to hatch and want to pay the shipping of $15 I'd be more than glad to send you some.

Seriously , Silkies are pretty, but just to much work for me. They don't roost so you have to make sure the floor is spotless or they get all poopy. At least the ones I had did.

Love ya,

3T olive oil
large chopped onion
4 oz parmeson cheese
1 bag spinash
15 ox ricotta cheese
4 eggs (save 1 for crust
1 C cheddar cheese, grated
pice crust with top (I think it means pierce)
salt & pepper to taste

Saute onions in oil. Cook spinach until limp. Mix everything together and pour into pie crust and top and bake 40 minutes at 425.

Spinach pie. DW uses store bought crust I think. One for bottom and one for top.

Ta, dah!

Okay..now that sounds yummy-it will have to be a dish for just my mother and I. Mark won't touch spinach with a 10 ft pole!

I haven't posted on here in forever, but I'm glad to see you all are doing good! Yes, I have an ulterior motive...lol...does anyone know where I can get Buckeye eggs in this state? I'd really love chicks, but will take the eggs. If you're an hour away, I will drive..more than that, I'll pay for shipped eggs. Rancher has forced me to buy a new bator

and well, I'm sure they will hatch in that. I can just feel the hatching bug coming on...you all know what I mean right? It also means trouble! LOL

Oo don't talk to me about the hatching bug.. I have 11 little chickies languishing in my barn and a bunch more still 'in the egg'. :)

Finally managed to cover most of the ice (when will it melt!!?) in my back field with a mixture of shavings and sand and my back coop chickens made it out for the first time in a few weeks..

Alas, my pretty EE roo Leo has been displaced since he's been locked in 'his' coop and it appears my scruffy BO roo Mohawk has moved up to the top spot. They had their little tussle and now Leo is staying with his 'back coop' girls as is right and proper. (formerly he would ditch the 21 (!!) ladies in his own coop and go romance the older ladies in the coop with Mohawk, leaving mohawk with no romance. Ahh, young chicken love. Thankfully neither roo has spurs and looks like no damage done.

Thank you Happy..and I agree with Vm on the spray Blu Kote...works much better. Still need to do it out of the wind, but not quite as messy. Still messy stuff though, also have any of you tried Vetericyn (sp)? I've used it with great success on my horses and also, I had a chick with a closed, crusty, swollen eye and within a couple of days it was all cleared up. Works fantastic on any cuts and is just amazing stuff. Its a clear liquid and is available in spray or a gel. TSC has it and its pricey, but a little goes along way. Let me see if I can find the link..

Hope this helps someone!

That Avia Charge 2000 that Mcmurray has is supposed to be great in helping with feather picking...just a thought.
