NY chicken lover!!!!

Hi, Annie. Same temperature here. One of those beautiful marans girls I got from you laid an egg for me this morning. They had a hard molt last fall and took a vacation, so this is the first egg in a couple of months since the silkies quit on me, too. The marans hens look so cute when I check on them after work (in the dark). They look like feathered bowling balls with a chicken head peeking out. I've never seen chickens fluff up in such a perfect ball of feathers like that.

I love when they start laying again. Yesterday I got 15 eggs! I was down to NONE. We are putting some eggs in the incubator today or tomorrow. We collected too many of our own plus are getting more from here and there. I need to test fertility on ours for the start of the season. Hopefully around March 1st we should have some chicks available for sale.

Oh, and I signed up for the February swap - x 2. Chick season here we come!

I got three eggs 2 days in a row. I don't want to jinx it, but I think my regular layers are starting to lay again.

(Still waiting on a blue egg tho)

Anyone out there from Long Island. (My heart still belongs to Ithaca but have lived in Islip for 20+ years and my son was born in South Side so you figure it out) I have a small flock and a couple of baby roosters if anyone wants them (NOT FOR SUNDAY DINNER THOUGH) Late October I bought an incubator and a number of fertilized eggs. Hatched out 13 chicks have given away 4. With the 9 I have left I have several roosters (One Red Blue Laced Wyandotte, One Turken(UGLY only a mother caught love)and one fancy laced Polish )Can't keep them IT'S THE LAW. Like no one in the Town of Islip is breaking any code. I have neighbors the would have a problem. The idea behind starting them in October was so that I didn't have to buy day olds in the spring and wait months for eggs.Mentally I think I am in a 9th grade biology class. Can take the girl out of the lab but you can't take the lab out of the girl(Microbiologist by trade-Cornell Vet School and API ). THANKS for letting me vent. NOT A TYPIST
