NY chicken lover!!!!

I have a bator full of gorgeous blue eggs from hot2pot that go on lockdown tomorrow morning! YAY. I think I have 20 or so blue ones and three mutt eggs I threw in as just in case eggs.. She says some are EE and some are real americaunas so we'll see what I get. =)

Still have my 11 remaining NYD chicks in the barn - one EE/tailed Araucana (not sure which yet) is obviously a boy, the rest could still be girls but at 6 weeks you know how that goes. There's the one black roo, two barred rocks, one RIR, two rumpless araucaunas and the rest are probably EE or mixes. Fun! =)

I'll probably be putting some older birds on CL when they are done molting in a month or two. Need to make room for the spring chicks and I am NOT building another coop this year. :p

I have a friend who might be interested in some of your older girls. She has taken a heavy hit to her flock this winter from hawks.

You guys are all killing me with the bators and chicks! It's like junk food. If you don't buy it you can't eat it, so I haven't bought a bator yet. There's just no place to put chicks right now with the ducks still inside. On the up side, the muscovies are starting to lay and I have four eggs so far.

Wimped out on continuing with the duck house and run because of the cold weather and now it keeps whispering it wants to be a bantam coop when finished.

To keep myself from spending more hours looking at hatcheries, eggs, and incubators I decided to start planning what to grow for vegetables this year. So far I have one raised bed and a lot of rocky hillside. I'll have to be really focused about what to plant because it will all involve lots of digging and hauling.

What do you grow for yourself and your birds, and what do they like best for treats? They won't be free-ranging because there are way too many loose dogs, hawks, and eagles about.

I'll let you know first, just in case. They are hatchery birds, so nothing exciting, but nice girls nonetheless. Haven't decided the breakdown yet, but will probably rehome in two or three groups - one is seven girls, the other coop is 10 girls and one boy. Then I'll have two coops free for the newbies. It will be at least another month, tho - some are molting and I'd be embarrassed to send them out looking like they went through a plucker! :)

HK,
I plant kale for my birds. They love it! Also have planted extra squash for them, they didn't like that so much, unless I put fefir and/or salmon with it. I plan on getting non GMO sunflowers seeds and do sunflowers for them this year.

The past 2 weeks I've been training on day shift tues, wed, and thur. On fri and sat. I was on my old hours. So I worked 2:30 til 1am on friday night and had to go back in at 9am on sat. morning. Of course my youngest woke up crying at 6am. I'm tired. I'm officially on my new hours starting tomorrow at 3am. It will be nice to have weekends off from now on.

I've just been catching up on the thread, about 6 pgs worth. I'm picturing a plucker on a dremel too.
