Ginny,

I absolutely love that...there's nothing like a dog looking at you with their adoring eyes...to heck with the hair..bring on the love!!

Mr. Tim....good luck with the hatch!!! Fingers crossed and happy hatching vibes sent your way!

Did ya miss me? My modem died. Thought about digging a hole and burying it , but Verizon insists I mail it back to them.

I am SOOOOOO Excited about Stony's hatch.

Add that to what Annie is hatching (I have dibs on the D'uccles) and my coop will be FULL FULL FULL!!! I am sooooo excited.

Now you know what is going to happen, right? 5 of my birds are gonna go broody all at once. LOL

I do believe that the hatch is over. 1 egg with no pipping or cheeping in the egg. Left it in there till I get home from work. Looks like 19 healthy chicks! Will try to take pictures tomorrow and post, but don't get your hopes up. I am a neanderthal when it comes to technology.................

Yay, babies!

Good luck everyone with your hatching and gardening. I wish I could garden but I have a black thumb. My family will tell you that. I kill everything I try to grow. However, I am GOOD at growing chickens! lol

Ginny--the cockerals from the straightrun will either be eaten or used as the breeder for the girls to replenish our flock as needed. I have no problem eating what I grow. I put lots of effort into my birds so I know that I will have a good meal if I have to eat them!

Sunbeams mini pie maker + 4 silkie eggs, a bit of bacon and some shredded cheese = some very tasty miniquiches. Cooked up beautifully. Looks like Little Man is doing his job as well! Still looking for blue silkies hatching eggs.

Night all.

I just baked a cake and checked the fertility of the eggs I added to the mix. It seems the OE, Brahma and ONE of the lavs have fertile eggs. Soooo IF I get 5 broodies I think I'll hatch some of my own mutts, cuz they are good egg layers and they will all have a blue egg layer as a Daddy, so I should get some really colorful eggs from the offspring....not to meantion hefty roos if the Brahma eggs are males.

How many of your chicks do you have sold? I am thinking I might like a couple more LF....any breed....so if you have a few odd balls in the hatch I'll take those too. All roos go in the freezer cuz I have toooo many roos already.

Does anyone want an Ameruacana roo? Really, he's a sweetie. AND throws blue egg laying genes. You can make your own Olive eggers as well as any number of other permutations of blue/green with his off spring.

Dear Glass; At one point in time I had 13+ animals roaming around my home(I didn't have chickens at that time). My house is the size of a postage stamp. My husband is a veterinarian and brings home all the rejects for me to take care of.Some how word spread that I was the turtle lady of E islip I was rehabing turtles. One with just 3 legs (cut off by a lawn mower) one hit by a car(needed 4 surgeries to get him up and running) and one the size off an oreo cookie (he is now over 50# and lives in my basement in the winter). Ever one that comes to my home just shakes their head . I just can't let them be put down.My mother in law has the most to say but I really don't care.I certainly understand.

Thank you, Rancher. I went back to the coop to check yet again and another little one was down in the nest on the floor cheeping loudly. I grabbed the hen and other chick and put them down there, and food and water, but the other girls were way too interested in the whole process and wanted tastes of the chick starter...so I brought the broody bunch in to the basement.
I was raised nicely, and people used to say in distain "Were you raised in a barn..." those people would now be justified in their distain...chickens in the basement, dogs on the furniture, and going out in my pajamas. My Mother is probably looking down and shaking her head, or perhaps spinning...but I'm thinking some of you may understand.
Have to make a dog crate tiny chick proof.

Hi everyone, thank you for the encouragement. Last night I saw that both of the remaining chicks are doing well. I worried yesterday because I had heard peeping but couldn't see the peeper. I had seen the little ones eat and drink before I gave them to the broody, so Was worried that they would be hungry and maybe she thought they were younger and would starve them...probably too much thinking. But then I saw them! They are so bright and peppy scampering around eating and drinking. I love the warm purry clucks the broody mom is making...it's great.

One of my friends has an old dog house that she is going to give me for eggs! So the price is right. It is very old and I know my husband will hate it, but if I can get a coat of paint on it and all cleaned up, we can then just put the siding on it we do for the coop....I think it will look fine. And she has a chain link kennel, but short, that could be covered to stay away from hawks...I can put a layer of wire around the coop under the siding....

I love having a plan!
