NY chicken lover!!!!

Hey---where did you guys find the 10 percent coupons for tsc??? I need one! Really bad! I have never seen them around here. OOOO---and the pics of the babies are sooooo cute! Now I really cant wait till mine come on april 3rd.

Ginny--I switch my chicks over when the bag is empty. That is usually around 8 weeks or a little longer. No sense in wasting feed, especially at these prices.

I am hoping it warms up and melts off the rest of this snow so we can start on the big coop soon. Have most of the materials but the snow is holding us up. Still moving the rest of the wood from the oak we cut down. Doesnt help that I am still sick with bronchitis and a sinus infection but it is getting better slowly. At least I wasnt hacking up a lung on my counter while waiting on the guests! hehe

My silkies still insist on laying in the run. sigh. I am running out of tricks to teach them where to lay. Hoping to get enough eggs to do a test hatch in two weeks. My hens are almost back to normal laying but I know that someone is not pulling her weight. If we could figure out which one, dinner would be served. However, to trapnest them at this point would probably upset them enough to put their egglaying off kilter again so I will let it go until the newbies start laying. That is why we are expanding, Henicillin, because our egg demand has exceeded out egg production! I've got a list of waiters for eggs and I need some for my own use.

Hope everyone else is staying well. Keep those baby pics coming!

Amy, have you tried putting wooden eggs where you do want them to lay? I bought some wooden eggs at the Michael,s store near your Target store and put them in the nesting boxes where no one wanted to lay. Th hens will now lay in those boxes and not fight over the one in the corner which is the one they would pile into and squabble over.

Guess I will try that Ginny. I used golf balls, rocks, locked them in for a few days, etc. My dh says they are slow learners. Humph. They are my kids! Guess I will stop on my way in to work tomorrow. Meltage is going on. Yeah!

TSC coupons??? where can I get some???

TSC mails us a flyer or two every couple of weeks, probably because they want to make sure I haven't dropped dead or something if I go a week without shopping there.

This one ("Jump start your spring projects with 10% off your entire purchase") has a 10% coupon, plus one for an additional 5% off on dog and cat food, and is good through 3/11. I have it close at hand, and am slowly losing the ability to resist populating a brooder in my garage with Rouens at 10% off.

My TSC is in Schodack, and is nice because the area is rural, so the staff knows their stuff. I was shooting the breeze yesterday evening with my favorite person down there, who knows her chickens. She was telling me about some of the dingbats they've had come in recently. One woman was epic. Her friends had told her that half a dozen hens would "absolutely" take care of the ticks in her yard. My friend said, no, sorry, they won't, as, although they do eat some here and there, guineas are far better for that. The woman proceeded to pitch a hollering fit, insisting that my friend (who kept a sixty-bird flock for years) knew nothing whatsoever about chickens, and that her friends, who had read that somewhere on the Internet, obviously knew more than "some clerk." She then said she was going to buy some chicks, and, if they didn't eat all the ticks in six months, was going to try to RETURN THEM. To their everlasting credit, my friend and the manager booted her out for being a jerk.

If any of you folks feed Nutrena feed, I saw an ad in the latest "Hobby Farms" magazine for a free reusable egg carton. I scanned it in for you guys and then remembered that we are on the INTERNET and they probably had the coupon advertised on their site. And they do. lol

The hitch is that you have to buy 3 bags of NatureWise or Country Feeds at one time. Figured I'd share with those of you who already feed it!

Well, that's it. I'm caving in to temptation. I have a brooder warming up in the garage (fortunately, my husband did not manage to commandeer the better of the two brooder totes for his piles of junk), and I'm going to head down to TSC in a bit to diversify into Rouen ducklings, unless they've sold them all (unlikely - they just came in yesterday, and they had a whole passel of 'em), in which case it'll be red sexlinks.

Stop me before I buy an incubator!!!! Wait - what am I thinking? You guys won't tell me not to buy an incubator - you'll tell me which incubator I want! I love this place!

Framac: If you go to the Utica Craigslist site, there is someone who regularly advertises in the Farm and Garden section. He has pheasents and quail. I did see last year that he had Golden pheasents and I think Lady Amhurst for sale. Might be worth a look as he is in North Brookfield. (Of course, it could be a she instead of a he, but I didn't want to say they or it.

) There is an ad placed yesterday or today for the Brookfield place.

Also Menagerie Farm in Waterville has Ameraucanas. Might be worth checking if she/he has an extra Roo.
