NY chicken lover!!!!

I am so jealous of all the new babies! My babies are in the scraggly ugly stage. I have too many chickens right now, so feeling a bit overwhelmed with all the good chicken fun. I got a hairbrained idea this evening to move the V-day babies out of the house so now they are in their dog crate with their ecoglow - in the barn with the NYD chicks (eek!). I put fencing around it and everyone has separate water and food so as long as no chicks squeeze out between the bars... I have my fingers crossed for tonight. Just couldn't take 'inside chicks' anymore. :p

Next job is to find homes for some of my older girls, hopefully all at once.

I have a rumpless quasi tufted araucana chick also, although mine is defective (but cute!). she/he/it has one tiny tuft on one cheek and the other one is on the top of its head!!

Are you rehoming your perpetually broody hen? Cuz I still want her if you are.

Hi Cass! =) Yes, my perpetually broody has already started to stay overly long in her favorite broody spot. thankfully she is not yet broody! =)

And yes, I do want to rehome some of my older ladies, hopefully not to a stewpot. They aren't old enough for that! =) I am waiting just a bit longer for everyone to finish molting. I have one poor ugly chicken that I am going to send with the most attractive hens. She's a great layer but uuuugly. And not overly nice either. LOL.
Contact Featherz....she needs to rehome birds. LOTS of birds. She'll help you fill up those coops in a hurry. And you won't have to worry about your "hatch rate". She posts here frequently, so if you go back a few pages you'll find a post from her, mouse over her name and it will show a menu that includes " send PM" (I cheated, I looked to make sure I was giving correct info, this new forum still has me reeling with the changes) I don't know how much she wants for her birds, but I know she has some (read A LOT) to rehome. And I am pretty sure she has full grown birds too, not just chicks. (I want her perpetually broody hen tho cuz I don't have an incubator or the patience to brood chicks very often)

Edtied to add: Speak of the devil...she's right above this post

Okay so I put a couple of golf balls in the silkie nest boxes. I found a broken egg on their ramp going into the coop. Grrr. I want to collect for test hatching purposes. Sigh. I will keep trying. Had the remains of an egg in one of the nest boxes in the big coop as well. Weird. 5 eggs on one side and just some yolk colored shavings in the other box. I will be keeping an eye on them.

Welcome to the newbies!

Here is a quick "phone" pic of a tufted, rumpless Araucana we hatched 3/1

ETA: I still don't understand pic adding with this system...

Good luck with the golf balls. If one hatches what will you get?

SOUNDS LIKE YOU HAVE A NICE SETUP, I CURRENTLY HAVE MY BIRDS IN THE ADIRONDACKS, BUT I WILL BE BUILDING A HOUSE IN POESTENKILL, THATS NOT TOO FAR FROM YOU I GUESS. BY THE WAY CHECKOUT BRAHMAS AS A BREED, VERY WELL SUITED FOR THE COLD, INCREDIBLE DISPOSITIONS, JUST A GREAT BIRD TO WORK WITH. DAN POWELL HAS DEVELOPED A BUFF LACED BRAHMA, AND BIG MEDECINE HAS DEVELOPED A SILVER LACED VERSION OF THE BRAHMA. BOTH THOSE NEW BRAHMA PATTERNS HAVE BEEN COMMANDING VERY HIGH HATCHING EGG PRICES. LAST YEAR ONE BATCH WENT FOR OVER $1,000.00......BY THE WAY IM TOM
