NY chicken lover!!!!

Maden - thanks for the thoughts. Yes I love the warmth but worked outside yesterday and made me a little painful, but I've got stuff to do and I am determined to have the SFH's and Marans moved to their respective coops by the week end.

Now I will say this. I ahve two Birchen Marans roos on CL but if anyone here wants one or both they are Free to BYC members. I have four and I can promise chicks next year or hatching eggs to who ever takes them.

I just don't have the energy to grow them out and eat them nor will I take them to an auction with gas prices the way they are. I can't see spending $20-30 in gas, to sell a chicken for $5. If that.
If my older brother were still alive he'd just take their heads off.

Anyhow headed to HD for 2x3's

ta, ta for now,

Rancher

(ta, ta it looks like rain, ta ta it looks like rain) can you guess which movie that line is from?

Anybody got splash cochins in New York. I'm looking for some to cross over my lemon blues that will hatch anyday know. i do currently have Golden laced though.
I think I have a black splash. I got it from someone who told me it was a cochin. Its Black white and he's got to go I was going to cull him in next few weeks (too many roos here)....

You live in Vernon, and I work in Oneida..... Hmmmm. If you let me know when you are going, and if you arestill willing to pick up, I might take you up on that offer.

Framac

Hi! I don't mean to butt in but I am going to the Albany area sometime shortly...date and time not a diff yet...but I would be willing to meet and transport a chicken or duck or two..I am in the Vernon area..Just saying..

I may give him a call and see if he has Peahens. Thanks,

Framac

Framac: If you go to the Utica Craigslist site, there is someone who regularly advertises in the Farm and Garden section. He has pheasents and quail. I did see last year that he had Golden pheasents and I think Lady Amhurst for sale. Might be worth a look as he is in North Brookfield. (Of course, it could be a she instead of a he, but I didn't want to say they or it.

) There is an ad placed yesterday or today for the Brookfield place.

Also Menagerie Farm in Waterville has Ameraucanas. Might be worth checking if she/he has an extra Roo.

With so many of us hatching our own, it's a wonder they can sell any chicks. Not that I wouldn't mind red stars but where would I put them?

If getting rid of chickens were as easy as getting them I might like them better.

Good morning all and welcome newbies (I'm a displaced upstate NYer from Ithaca so I'm tolerated here). Living on Long Island I need a 22 for the neighbors not the coons. Great photos everyone. My friend that I gave my Black copper marans to last summer has eggs that should start hatching on Fri. I can't wait. She said I can have a hen if she gets an extra. He is a beautiful creature. He is still healing from the fox attack on Monday. I picked up all the feathers he lost and plan to send them to my brother since he ties his own flies. Well out to take care of the girls (and 2 remaining boys) just can't believe I can't even give them away.

One last thing maybe I can get some suggestions . I need a new automobile. My husband wants me to get a SUV type thing. I WANT A TRUCK..... I've had two and now with owning chicks. I think I need another one.Last week when I went to Agway I had to tie the food to the roof racks since I had two bales of straw in the trunk. You should see what my VW beetle's tuunk looks like. Its 11 years old. It looks like a small feed store exploded in it. Most times its either his way or the highway. Sure do miss my dad ; if he was alive we'd go truck shopping. Can you buy a car with American Express? Wish me luck....Carol

I'd love a truck too - we make do with my Jeep and a trailer. I love my Jeep and trucks are pricey, so I guess I'll have to wait.. :)

Isn't today great! I went out and played with the chickens and it's just gorgeous outside..

Here's a pic I took today of my super broody that might go live with Cass - she went broody 4x last spring and hardly laid me any eggs. :p Plus she took care of her babies until they were too big to fit under her wings.. and then some..

I'm with you on that one. I had a hatchery order but cancelled it in favor of hatching my own. Have lined up places for the roos, so no harm no foul (or fowl lol). USPS has been so slow lately that I just can't justify ordering chicks as it would crush me to get a big box of dead babies. =(
