NY chicken lover!!!!

Hey Java--let me know when you will have eggs for hatching. Where did you get your stock? I have been wanting javas for a while but my dh wanted something else. I am thinking that I will have some room next year for a few. Let me know.

Stony--what are you going to use for a motor for your plucker? I have a washing machine.....

I thought it was illegal in nys to have wild turkeys in any way, shape or form. How do those of you who raise them get around this? I would love to raise some turkeys but just dont have the room. Loving this warmer weather. Hoping my lawn dries up soon. Starting the coop tomorrow. Dh is taking the day off to begin. Hopefully we dont kill each other during the process of building this thing! Went out at 7 this am to let the cheeps out as it was just getting light and the lazy girls were still on the roost! Bunch of spoiled divas! The kids (aka silkies) were up and scratching around and almost ran me over getting out the door this am. Time to find room to set up the brooder boxes for the babies. The month is passing fast and they will be here soon.

Glad everyone is having a good hatch so far. I am hoping to start one soon. Just need my silkies to lay a few more eggs.

my stock right now came from a hatchery in NM. I will be getting new blood this year. I am getting eggs from Mr. Bowen in Kansas and Seth Johnson in VT in april-may-june. it will depaned on how well the eggs hatch out, the eggs from Mr. Bowen will be shiped and the eggs from Seth Johnson are pick up. then I will sell the eggs, chicks or maybe bigger birds next year. PM me and I will have you on a list.

and now there are 8 fuzzy butts. Seriously, I was hungry and came in for breakfast.

lots of new pips

Not a good pic, but if anyone's interested in a rumpless araucana cockerel, let me know. He's 10ish weeks old and is not crowing yet, but in person you can see the shinies coming in on his back, what little there is of it. :P

I have one too many boys in this group. He's much prettier than in this pic, but he's still in the brooder/barn so it's not bright enough for decent pics. He was hatched from a big blue egg from macopin farms in NJ.

Free to reasonably non food home (meaning if he turns nasty you can eat him, just don't tell me about it LOL).

Spring (or at least a passable facimile) is upon us! Congrats to all of you hatchers. Little fuzzy butts everywhere. Big auction right down the road this weekend. Hope I can pick up some cheap equipment.

Hi everyone!! I haven't posted on this thread in quite a bit!! Not sure if any of you saw my pictures from Hurricane Irene, but we lost everything. Every structure on our property was actually swept away by the water. None of our belongings survived, much less our chickens. :( A huge bummer since above all, I love my chickens like they were my kids, and second because they had only been in there new coop a few months, and most were just getting old enough to lay. So here I am, 6 months later, in a new home, with a new chicken coop under construction. I ordered chicks a few weeks ago because I simply couldn't wait anymore, and having them here just makes me happy! After talking with Cass (she bought some silkies off me last spring), she suggested I post here and see if anyone is interested in the "extra" chicks that I cannot keep from my order, and if anyone has any hens that are closeby, at a decent price.

The extras from my order are:
8 Partridge silkies
3 Light Brahmas
---They are all bantam straight run, and 3 weeks old today. I would be happy with $3 each, or $30 for all 11 of them.

As far as hens, I am not picky at all. I just like to keep a nice colorful flock. Would love a polish or 2, since my kids just love the way they look.

Anyway, I am in Northern Schoharie County, so if anyone is interested in my chicks, or has any hens for sale, please PM me. :)

I was also wondering, was anyone else on here affected by the Hurricane??

Wow that's horrible!!! I'd be happy to give you hens for free if you wanted to come up this way. Nothing special, just hatchery birds, 1-1.5 years old. No polish, but I have some other interesting ones. I'm up near Wilton, so that may be too far for you but PM me if interested.

Hope the recovery has been as easy as possible given the circumstances. Hope you find what you are seeking.

Good afternoon everyone; Last November I helped one of my chicks out. I named him Shellac since at the time it looked like that's what someone dipped him in. He is the naked neck rooster I am trying to find a home for. All this hatching talk makes me want to start all over again. I just know I'd have the town inspectors here finding some reason to close the whole thing down. They went crazy last year cause several towns over there were chickens roaming the streets. I'd love turkeys but I think that would be pushing the envelope. Good luck with the hatch.
stony, How many are left? Do you do help outs? Good luck!

Anyone else doing the easter hatchalong? Hoping to get more NN chicks, plus I have eggs coming from happyhensny and am putting in leghorn/buff orpington cross chicks. =)

Has anyone ever ordered from Purely poultry I just received their flyer and they have several breeds I want and they sell females ? You don't have to but 15 chicks which I can't have right now. Need to move off this island.
