Here's something that might be of interest for my local-ish peeps. The Rensselaer County Soil and Water Conservation District is holding a tree and shrub sale. The prices are good, and you don't have to live in the county to buy anything from them. I'm eyeballing the package of five 3-year-old high bush blueberry plants for $28.

Has Anyone had experience with Primier 1 Electric Poultry Netting?

I am considering getting some from them and also am comparing plug-in vs solar powered.

Tabs: I think your egg is cute!

Soooo Jonesing for chicks. Hope the school is ready to set a hatch soon.
I have premier1 poultry netting. I have 2 100' lengths of the sturdier variety and 150' of the lighter variety. I love the stuff and will buy more when the time comes. I also have one of their solar powered fencers. I use this one for my horse pasture where I do not have access to power. It is a great fencer, but does not hang on a pole. I do prefer the solar powered fencers that hang.
In general, I prefer to use plug in over solar. The power source is more dependable and I believe stronger. I have a horse that will walk through the solar powered fence, but stays well clear of the fence powered by plug in. If you have never used or installed an electric fencer, premier1 is excellent for its information and customer service. They and their products, are of outstanding quality.

We love our Cayugas. They are great. We use the eggs mostly for baking, but they are great little buggers.

Thanks, greymane! I think Cayugas are definitely an option. Do you know where I might be able to get some hatching eggs or ducklings? I've also been looking into Saxonys also. Does anyone know how Saxony's temperments are?

hmmm...we have three coops and are doing a goat barn this spring...DH will not build another chicken coop...I thought I would have a pigeon loft but I have been told they will share with the last pen of what nots...Lav orp..grown out chicks..no a hoop coop would be nice..not happening..Thanks tho!

Well you do know that "Hoop Coops" are easy to build and cheap. My roo is the only one w/o frost bite. AND I just cleaned it for the first time. The floor was amazingly dry. The only wet spot was the edge and I think it was due to not enough over hang on the tarp. I'll replace it or add another that is longer. I did add more wood shavings.

When I clean now I throw plenty of DE everywhere.

Each coop comfortably hold 13 - 14 birds. However I do have double the size with the covered run. Very nice in the winter. Size is 100" x 9' Right now I have 12 hens and a roo. I like it better than my wooden coop. I'll be posting measurements or the plan with the sizes for those who consider this set up. The most expensive thing is the hardware cloth.

You could easily do a set up with 5 of these side by side. Or more. That's at least 50 chickens. I put doors on both sides for easy cleaning and ventilation. They said they love it. Buck , buck and cockle doodle doooo.

Thank you vmdanielsen, that helps. :)

ahhh Goat ropin music? What is that..Blue seal? What is that...Agway..well I have an ideal on that one..but it is small....so it is TSC or nothing..lucky you!

I must be the only one here who doesn't really like going to TCS. I don't know if it is the incredibly loud goat ropin music that they play, or all the chinese made stuff in there, or what. But I prefer Blue Seal. Agway even. I do sometimes shop at TSC, just as a last resort.

goat ropin music puts me in a miserable mood. So it is probably that
