NY chicken lover!!!!

Ohhh...must be the year of the duck! I, too, am looking into ducks. Totally a duck rookie, but look forward to the decrease in my mosquito population! I'm looking for a dual purpose breed as well. Good forager, plenty of eggs and good enough to eat any "extras" for supper. I was looking at Cayugas or Campbells. Hubby says no white ducks and no Muscovy's. Suggestions?

Also, thinking of getting fertile duck hatching eggs to put under my chickens. I always have broodies! Where to get those in the Oneida area?

We love our Cayugas. They are great. We use the eggs mostly for baking, but they are great little buggers.

Have determined the stray Amish rooster is an escape artist, and I'm getting pretty good at chicken herding. Got 2 hens into their shed tonight and Roo. By the time I got the horses turned in, Roo was running in to take his place under the grain buckets. He is becoming a barn pet, but man does he make a mess (at least he roosts in one spot). And he gets into a crowing contest with the other roosters; of course he is in a steel pole barn which echos nicely into our now open bedroom window long before daylight. And this is why we dont want roosters... haha Hubby finally agreed to let me start getting chicks! So, if all goes as planned, I believe I will be the recipient of 4 lovely Blue Orpingtons chicks via chick relay from Happyhens in Albany. It is a start! If anyone has 'spare' chicks from your Easter hatches, I'd still be interested in some Australorps, Wyandottes, Speckled Sussex, Welsummer, Dominique, and Ancona. Pretty much anything that can forage a little, lay decent, is docile and hardy enough to withstand a very excited little girl (and me too!)
I will have extras from the Easter swap! In my bators I have LOTS of Americaunas, BLRW and a couple Barnevelders. The Orps will be there and ready for you tomorrow! I have Australorps aChanteclers if you need hatching eggs or chicks - chicks should be in next month, a friend wanted to hatch but cannot have chickens.

Is anyone from the Vernon area going to Kings auction Sunday? I have a few, well, a lot of chicks to send and could offer some gas money if I could send them with someone...
A lot of Lt Sussex un sexed chicks, maybe 2 roosters, not sure yet. I not goinng to continue with the Lt. Sussex, I have too many breeds & have to pare down somehow.
I was thinking of going...I have a few Roos I need to sell. I wouldn't mind picking whatever up you want to sell. I sent you an email.

Has Anyone had experience with Primier 1 Electric Poultry Netting?

I am considering getting some from them and also am comparing plug-in vs solar powered.

Tabs: I think your egg is cute!
