NY chicken lover!!!!

Something I noticed, well two.

One is we turned the heat off to the house since it's so warm and the room where the incu seemed cold so I plugged in the brooder heat light and that brought the room temp up to the 70-80* recommended.

Two the incubator temp has been running 100.0 plus or minus, but when I took the turner out it is now running 99.6 or so. Point being if you incubator is running higher than the recommended 99.5 don't sweat it if it's just a point or half point higher. Otherwise be prepared to make an adjustment for when you take the turner out. Provided your not using a hatcher. Otherwise you could just be sure the hatcher maintains the same temp as the incu with the turner in it.

Poor people like me have to rely on one incubator.

congrats! You have 1/2 the acreage I have and I only have around 80 chickens right now with 41 eggs in the bator

. 30 acres is a lot of space to fill! I have room for WAY more than I have.

I feel better. Not counting chicks, I have fewer than 40 birds right now and I have 26 acres! =)

Is anyone from the Vernon area going to Kings auction Sunday? I have a few, well, a lot of chicks to send and could offer some gas money if I could send them with someone...
A lot of Lt Sussex un sexed chicks, maybe 2 roosters, not sure yet. I not goinng to continue with the Lt. Sussex, I have too many breeds & have to pare down somehow.

I'm looking for a couple, maybe a trio of ducks that lay a lot of eggs, and taste good just for my own consumption. I have no idea about ducks,so I am in the dark about what breeds would be the most suitable.....Anyone?

Our farm before we bought it was used as a rental property. The tenants had filled the outbuildings to the rafters with trash and we are constantly finding things grown over on the property. There were and still are tires all over the place from when there was a bunker silo. I've tried coming up with ways to reuse some of them.

In the one picture you can see that the chickens have scratched the mulch away and ripped up the plant paper. Silly chickens!

Sorry Sue. We're not going to auction this weekend. We're still hatching and growing some out before we make decisions on what to get rid of. We will be going to the fingerlakes feather club meeting on saturday.

OOPS this was to go with the duck post!
Saxony...200 plus eating eggs and a heavy breed..you can eat the extras! On the Critical list or Khaki Campbell..a light breed on the watch list still a dual purpose...I know someone hatching Campbells..there is the Golden 300..a hybrid..but lays great..not sure on eating..
