NY chicken lover!!!!

Morning all! I see everyone has been taken in by the baby goat pics (which are cute, as well as the young man holding them)! Chickens are the only thing I have room for on my acre. I need to win the lottery so I can by more land!

Tab--I hope your beagle hacks up what she ate rather than gets it stuck. That would be an expensive vet bill. My lab eats all kinds of crap and usually I end up cleaning it up later if I dont get him outside fast enough. Ugh. What is it with dogs eating nasty, wierd stuff?

I dont know if this qualifies for the easter hatchalong but I did set 32 eggs in my bator on wednesday. All silkies. Temp is holding around 100 to 101, depending on which thermometer you look at. I have two thermometers and two hydrometers in there as I have found out that even with the fan in it the temp varies slightly from one side to another. I have no water in it but the humity is reading between 20 and 30 percent so I figure thats pretty good. I will candle on wednesday and see how many I have to pull. I am still not sure about my own eggs but hoping for the best.

Hoping to work on the coop some today. Looks like rain though. I am hoping it holds off so we can get lots more done. Also have to clear a spot in the cellar and set up the brooder box for the chicks that are arriving april 3rd.

Cass--I think you were the one who said when you raise your children through the teenage years you understand why some animals eat their young. I totally agree! I used to tell my daughters that when they were getting on my last nerve. It kept them wondering!!!

Everyone have a nice day!

My oldest woke up at 11pm, then my youngest a couple hours later, and then at 4:30 I hear this pop pop popping sound. It stopped then a minute later pop pop popping started again. We have green carpet. My beagle decided to scratch up a string of it. She was pulling it up then chewing it off. The sound was from when she was pulling on it and she would pause to chew then pull again. I see puking nightmare in my future.

I'd rather have puking than having it get stuck in her digestive tract though.

On to goats. My cousin raises them and makes her own cheese. It's good. 2 yrs ago she lost her billy and thought her season was lost. No babies no milk. I found her a replacement and in return they butchered 11 roos for me. It all worked out well.

Good morning; Keep an eye on your dog "cause if that gets stuck or tangled you will need to see a vet ;it can cause serious problems. You should check her poop for several days to make sure she is pooping it out. Good luck.

Yummy, Tab!

Goats...they're too cute and I would love some, but I'm afraid I would get carried away with the "chicken math" of it all myself!

Well, had a sucky hatch of shipped eggs..was really hoping these guys would come through for me! Did end up with a couple chicks of each breed that I wanted. Does anybody know where I can get decent stock of solid colored wyandottes? I'm looking for BBS particularly, but I will take white also. I really love the wyandottes and don't want to risk another hatch of shipped eggs. If anyone can help me out, I would really, really appreciate it!!

I'm in the easter hatch - pulled out six clears (shipped eggs) and one of Annie's chantecler eggs (blood ring) today, but I still have umm.. lemme think.. 39? eggs still going. So more chicks coming soon!

My 'pullets' (chicks that made the cut yesterday when I took the rest to auction) are much happier it seems now that they have space in their separation cage. I have them in a large cage in the barn with the NYD hatch ladies and gentlemen. They've been in there two weeks - still different sizes but hopefully I can integrate them soon. Little concerned tho since there are two rowdy teen roos in there.

Hopefully if I can rehome one coop of older ladies this week I can move those poor barn birds outside. I feel bad when they can't see the sun!
