NY chicken lover!!!!

x2! Can you video that!?

We should tape it, as it's hilarious. The roos completely lose their tiny minds and start shrieking their heads off. If the neighbors' dogs enter the yard, they just look at them. A big hunk of green, wadded-up plastic, though? THE HORROR!!!!

Our dog who is allowed into the coop under close supervision (she wants eggs, and ignores the chickens - her brother would never be allowed in, on the other hand, as that would be carnage) found six eggs underneath the nesting box shelves this evening. Three of them were Leghorn eggs. That would explain why I've only been finding one white egg a day - Barbie Girl and a couple of her buddies had found a handy-dandy new spot to lay. Goofy things.

I email at the address you gave me! now to see what happens! thank you!!!!!!!!!!

Please let me know how everything works out.

Its been a while since I worked at Cornell but if you contact the Vet school they should be able to give you the # and doctor in charge of Avian medicine. My husband worked in that department as a vet student but everyone I knew there is long gone. This is going to sound gross but you need to keep the dead bird refrigerated till you can get it to Cornell to be posted.Tell them Dr. Blomquist worked there in the '80s and suggested you call (can't hurt). If it was any other animal besides poultry I could get it into the diagnostic lab. Hope this helps

You can put it inn the refrigerator, but do not freeze it. Freezing affects the blood and the test for mycoplasmas.

A man we sold some chickens to in the fall stopped by this afternoon looking for roosters. He had a fox attack and the roo died defending the girls before he could get his gun. He went home happy with 2 young roos. And I'm happy being 2 roos lighter. It's not often you have someone come looking for roosters on purpose!

Happyhensny-- The splash orp chick we got from you my daughter has dubbed as "the king of chickens". The name fits being it is a roo and is bigger than the rest of the chicks. I think we're going to call him king for short.

Great name- Ours are Midnight, Chuck and Timmy.

We named the blue hen Luna. The black hen will either be Lucy or Hermione.

Love the Potter names!

Thanks... I have been slacking on here, but hopefully i will join convos more lol

This is a very busy season for me. I am more "chatty" in the winter.

Had the bee keeper here today and there was absolutely no activity. He checked out the hole and figured the the bees were looking for a new home and didn't like it. He wants me to keep an eye out for them because he would love a new hive?Flock? Herd?
Thanks for all your comments. Ginny

Darn. Our hive is out in the workshop now to be painted. Spoke with my "Bee friend" yesterday and I am ordering my jacket/veil tonight I hope...

Sold 6 dozen hatching eggs today. SWEET!!!! Some of the people do not want the chicks and want to bring them back after they hatch. I told them to just list them on CL, they will sell. Nope, don't want to be bothered. That's fine with me, I would rather have them back here so I can make sure people know what they are getting into BEFORE picking up chicks.

ETA: I have some chicks available - I think there are 1 D'Uccle, 3 BA & 3 Chantie

The swap at the Auburn TSC will probably have more sellers there as it is a club supported event. I live in Vernon, and I haven't heard about the one in Oneida, so I don't think, there will be many people selling there. Just my opinion...

Evening all. I came home to poop on top of the waterer in the terrorist brooding box. Looks like someone got some air and made it up there. I asked who did it but not one of them would fess up. Guess I have to put the screen on top of the box. I knew they were up to something. Sort of how a mom knows when her kids are up to something. I guess its time I figure out and escapeproof out jail as well so the inmates can have some yard time. They need some space to run and some grass to run on (not to mention something other than me to terrorize). At 3 weeks old I can see that some of the suspect boys are showing roostery behaviour. This group is going to be a handful!

My tiny fluffballs of silk are growing nicely. Introduced them to shavings in their box. Had to show them it wasnt evil and then they started to play with it. 4 will go to their new home next week. Setting eggs again on sunday. Hoping my rooster has been a good boy to the girls and I get some babies.

My diva hens are giving my some really nice eggs lately. I thought at 2 that they might slow down but they havent. Their eggs are now a large to xlarge size and look so perfect on some days. I still think that one or two of them are freeloading but I will leave them be until the others slow down.

Javagirl--sorry to hear of your loss. I hope you get an answer from cornell. Keep us posted.

Everyone else---stay well and pray for rain!
