Eek! My Golden Feather has expired - better go re-up that!

I need to mosey down to the coop and do the chook check, but I'm lazy.

Hi there! New to the site. I'm located in between Ulster and Sullivan counties near Ellenville. Hoping to find someone to swap with! I've got a handful of red Orpington roosters that I'd love to trade for some egg-laying hens. If anyone's interested or even just around, let me know! Thanks! :)
welcome to the ny thread on byc!!

Good Morning Sundown and welcome to the forum. I am just down the road from you in Stone Ridge. Lots of good peeps on here!

So my rir boys are trying their voices and started at 5 am today. They sound like they have dampers on their beaks! My idiot dog got me up at 5 so thats how I know this. Anyways, he only crowed for about 15 minutes and then was quiet. They did crow again when I went out to open the pop door but thats mostly a hi, so glad to see you where are the goodies crow. Otherwise they have been quiet. However, since they are maturing now I expect that they will become more vocal during the next few weeks. They neighbors have been fine with it and I hope that continues.

No pips yet. I hate waiting for eggs to hatch. Cmon, chickies, I want babies!

Thank you!! I've had my chickies for about 5-6 months now and it's been an adventure so far! The only bad thing is that, out of the 9 we have right now, I'm guessing that 6 are males. :( Does anyone know if having so many roos will keep my hens from laying? A neighbor suggested that might be the case as to why I'm not getting any eggs yet, although I'm still thinking that I shouldn't expect any until next month anyway. Also, none of the roos are crowing yet! I think I might have heard one put out an attempt, but it was awful and only happened the one time weeks ago. I want to hear my boys sing!

I wonder if that is my issue with trying to catch the coons too? I'm using the larger of the two box traps that TS sells, I think they also sell a slightly larger single trap and then the big coyote trap with the bait box... Is the coyote trap too big for coons and foxes? The plus to that one would be I could use live bait, which they really seem to prefer...

I haven't purchased the coyote trap. Too large wouldn't be the problem. The only issue I could possibly see is if the trip lever takes too much for a coon to trip it.
Fox hunt during the day. I see mine around the fields all the time . He even comes right up to the barn in the daytime. Raccoons are night predators, I have't caught mine yet, but the one night Icouldnt find my barn cat to lock him up, he was in the trap the next morning....sheeesse.

Someone on the byc predator thread said location is most important, but I have't figured out what location yet. We are going to put a switch on a wire & hot wire the whole chain link fence. The switch will allow me to shut it off during the day...I'll be da--ed if that raccoon gets another chick of mine!!!

fox hunt day and night. Not just during the day. There are images from trail cams all over BYC of foxes at night caught on camera

and I have shot 3 coons hours before sunset. They start their hunting a few hours before the sun goes down, especially if they have young
