NY chicken lover!!!!

fox hunt day and night. Not just during the day. There are images from trail cams all over BYC of foxes at night caught on camera

and I have shot 3 coons hours before sunset. They start their hunting a few hours before the sun goes down, especially if they have young
Yep, foxes got my chickens at high noon and they are also around at night.. =(

Why do you get the golden feather? Do you like it?

I signed up to be one because it allowed more auctions per month, the next day, they changed byc and now the auctions are a mess, & I don't use it. I will not rejoin when mine is up. There is no benefit to it for me.

In my opinion, when they changed the format, it ruined it...if all you want is chat, then its ok, but for most other things it used to be good for it now isn't. Many people have switched to using Facebook as their forum...there is also a sales site there.

Proves that everything you read isn't necessarily true...my experience with fox is daytime.

Heres another one....some say a fox will kill multiple chickens, but in every case for me, they have taken just one and left. I do find a bunch of feathers each time about 50 ft. from the coop area, but that is all.

Didn't catch anything last night, but the sardines were still there. and trap was not tripped. Cats locked in barn..

Hi all!!

I have a Golden Sea bright cockerel that I need to re-home.. He is just finding his voice, and wow he is loud!! If anyone might be interested in trading a hen for him, or just interested in him, please let me know :) I'm in Carthage, but headed towards Rome this Monday, so I can meet up somewhere that way!

My fox got three chickens in one day - and came back the next day for more. I am thinking she is feeding babies. =( And I know it was a fox since I interrupted her while she was trying to get one of the chickens. Bleh. =(

My latest encounters with a fox has been right around dusk, when some of my hens just had to stay out "5 more minutes". Previously, I lost pullets and cockerals at night and at high noon.

Bad part about that is that's the only time I can let my chickens OUT - otherwise getting 50+ mixed age chickens back to the right coop is impossible, no matter what food I am using as a treat. :p So I let them out at like 7P and just sit out there with my ipad attached to speakers hoping the fox will hear all the racket and stay away. :p

I like it because it helps support the costs of running the site, and because I think the badge looks groovy. I also like being the "Pill-Counting Pullet."

I used to be a GFM, but when it expired I just couldn't justify the cost anymore. However I will re-up it again when finances are better! 'Tis always good to support the site!

Thanks for the input...I really hadn't thought about it.

Thank you!! I've had my chickies for about 5-6 months now and it's been an adventure so far! The only bad thing is that, out of the 9 we have right now, I'm guessing that 6 are males. :( Does anyone know if having so many roos will keep my hens from laying? A neighbor suggested that might be the case as to why I'm not getting any eggs yet, although I'm still thinking that I shouldn't expect any until next month anyway. Also, none of the roos are crowing yet! I think I might have heard one put out an attempt, but it was awful and only happened the one time weeks ago. I want to hear my boys sing!
Waiting for pullets to lay is like waiting for jello to get firm. They will lay when they are ready and not before. Roos dont really affect laying at this age. You probably have more time to wait than what you think. Your boys will sound funny and awful until they get their big boy voices. Mine sound like someone is squeezing them. However, be careful what you wish for cause they can be loud and proud! lol.
