NY chicken lover!!!!

Kamir - is this a chick or young pullet? Is she coming into lay? As long as she's eating and drinking and acting normal I wouldn't worry. All chicks aren't the same and some do have strange personalities.
rancher hicks,
She's a 4 week old Dellie and seems normal in all other respects. I wasn't really worried so much as intrigued. However, I'm trying to be the best momma I can be, despite not having the correct plumbing.

Hello all. My surgery went well and so far the pain kept in check with the good stuff. That being said, I hate taking them and the way they make me feel. I dont know how anyone can take these on a daily basis.

Dh is being a good dh and taking care of me. He let everyone out tonight and spent the evening booting the boys off the girls so they know he is the boss. A couple of them give him a hard time but a good whomp usually corrects the attitude. I feel bad that he is carrying the load this week but it cant be helped.

Hey,,,who knew that crazy glue is the new thing to use to close wounds?? Okay,,,Im done and off to bed.

Glad to hear it went well! You'll be out chasing chooks in a nightgown and boots in no time!

I, on the other hand, don't chase chickens in a nightgown and boots. I wear a nightgown and horrible, ancient, smelly, beat-up Birkenstocks. Big difference!

Pharm I'm glad your ok. Hope you heal quickly.

I will be taking some del pullets and roos to the Kings auction. I hope I get a good price. I will also post them on CL for $20 a pair. These are Paul Harters birds. I just don't like them compared to my own line so I don't intend to mix them in. To much black in the saddle feathers.

I discussed downsizing with DW. I am worried about feed prices with this drought. I used to buy "bird bread" at the bread store but haven't because their shells start to look wonky. They love bread but family over does it sometimes.

Heni = I don't chase chickens if I can help it. I use a long skinny branch to prod them along.

I have my gardens fenced in so the rabbits can't get to them. I did see a squirrel snooping around my raspberry plants so it looks like more fencing. Or traps with my sleep inducing peanut butter sandwich.

Java what can you tell me about this swap?

Stony - those pelts have to be worth something right?

I could use some advice too. I want to downsize my birds. I've got some Birchen Marans, Lavender Orps, a few EE's , a few odd hens, and the Black ops roos. I hate to give him up but a Lav amer roo too.

Do you think I'd do better to take them to Kings or try to sell them outright on CL? Should I sell them as trios, or in groups ? I can't combine the odd birds. Definitely not the roos.

I need to go to Alabama and don't want to leave DW with all these chickens to care for since she works outside the home too. I'm only looking to keep the De ls, BR's and CR's. I figure I can replace the others easy enough. The orps came from Jody in PA and I can make the drive again if need be. Though she isn't selling Lavender Orps anymore. At least not for a while.
The swap is on Aug 12th at 10am and run till 1:00-2:00pm. Its very nice too!! I found it on CL but just joined the face book page, its the Mohawk valley poultry swap page. its $5.00 to get in to sell but not if you are just looking! here is the address for the place....The address is 1234 State Route 30A Sloansville NY 12160. I would sell them on CL first as you can get more money for them!! ooooooo lavender orps?????????? how much for them???

Thanks for all the wellwishes. Up since 5 listening to the blessed rain fall. No more pain meds. Just sore. So very happy we are getting a nice, soaking rain. My lawn needs it bad and the cheeps are happy it is much cooler. I have every window in the house open.

Rancher--we worry about feed price.too. I am hoping that once the pullets start laying that I will break even for feed prices. I have a list of people waiting for eggs and hopefully they will still be interested. We are at the amount we want to be, after the boys go to freezer camp. I suppose we can always eat a few others if feed gets too high.

Used to have birkenstocks but they finally wore out. I am trying to find a chicken nightgown so I can really push people over the edge!!!

Enjoy the rain everyone. I will.

rain? What is that? it has been at least a month since it did more than spit on us here. Everytime the weather guessers tell us it will rain, it doesn't here
