NY chicken lover!!!!

I have no wannabroods! Woohoo! My non-avatar BLRW has adopted the Jersey Giant's three chicks as her own, and is mothering them like nobody's business, and my Buff Orp decided she'd had it with the whole "sitting on nothing" deal when it was very hot out. Good! No more broodies, ladies, thank you very much!

Go Amy!!

Hi folks,

Being on a fixed income, I doubt that I will make it to the gathering at Tab's; besides, it's close to a 3 hour drive.

Lucky you!!! I have two 'long term' broodies that I just gave chicks to about 15 minutes ago, since they passed the 'chick overnight not dead' test with two test chicks. Plus the one that's currently got chicks and is perpetually broody (but is molting now, so she might as well have chicks).. and now I have a NN that is broody for the second time this year. I went in on Pyxis's hatchery chicks, so she can have those if still broody.

I'll be bringing a pile of baby roos to the auction in about a month unless someone wants free baby roos! =)

Featherz---the last thing we need around here are more roosters. After the murder of the head roo by his brothers, 2 more will be dispatched saturday. Hopefully that will bring some peace in the coop for a while!

Wish I could make the trip to see all of you but now that I am back to work, my schedule is loaded up. Seems they cant do without me and are loading up my hours instead of cutting them for a change. It would be cool if pics could be posted with names so I can put faces to handles but I understand if nobody wants to do that.

More rain coming over the next few days. My lawn will need haying by the time its done. Lots of grasshoppers this year. I havent seen them around for a while but this year we seem to have plenty, which is good for the cheeps. They love those tasty morsels!

My flock just met a snake. Everyone lived to tell a bout it, even the snake. I looked out the window and saw ALL of them looking at something intently. They rarely all do anything at the same time, usually only in their little group. So I went and looked intently, and someone bravely pecked toward the fence, and a snake twirled itself around and then I couldn't see it anymore. So we all went on to other things. I wonder what will happen the next time they meet a similar snake, after they have had time to think about it?
I have lots of snakes around, they hunt in my garden, under the plants (yay, snakes - git those pesky bugs and mouses!)...a few weeks ago, I found, in my coop, under the feeder, a four inch long section of snake body...survival of the smartest, apparently this snake was not too clever. Extra protein for the hens!

Aww, well, it was worth a shot. :p These are california white chicks, so I am guessing the boys will be pretty obvious in a few weeks. =)

I also have a Chantecler cockerel if anyone is interested.. He's about four months old, very sweet.. from Annie's eggs - I have one too many roosters in that coop and I am leaning towards keeping the NN rooster over the Chantecler.

Back to feeling like your old self? Gall bladder removal a success? Too bad you can't make it to the party. It would be nice to see you again!
Our lawn is just greening up. I could do with more grass as I have been breaking into winter hay for the horses. Would be nice if the grass would grow. I get a little nervous this time of year when I start using winter hay.
