NY chicken lover!!!!

Boy you must be rich if your chicken have a boat. Mine are lucky they have a coop and a yard.

It's not a very big boat - they found it on Craigslist, and it looks like a homemade job. They're constantly asking me to tow it to the pond down the road, but I haven't given in yet, so now they want the ducks to teach them to swim.

If we had enough interest we could pick up a ton for cheaper. The feed store lady told us that if we bought a ton she would sell it 50 cents a bag cheaper. Any interested parties? I would want to call her soon in case they need to order it and I woulld have it at our house for pick up at the event.

I'd take six bags, as the Highlander could handle that.

Tabs...im wondering if hubby will let me take his truck...I can really stock up on feed..15-20 bags let me ask AFTER he wakes up and AFTER he has at least two cups of java!!! Lol...I might be pushing my luck as we just got it back from the Ford garage with $4000 in repairs...Funn....two days after it was paid in full and warrenty ended..transmission blew last year...5000$ to fix it..8 months later...everything else goes wrong!!! Truck is only 5+ years old with 80 thousand miles on it! Ugh :/ If I can that will at least help get us to that ton...Will they deliver to your house for you???

Tab, if you are talking about Wilkinsons, I was there last week. Prices are up, 16% layer is now $11.50 and 21% chicks starter is $13.50. I buy the chick starter for my Marans, but I am downsizinng them, so am going to just get a few bags for them, and feed the 16% to the rest....too many chickens, and I have a lot of started chicks I need to sell before fall....aarrgghhh...

Well if anyone coming to the event is interested in your birds I'm more than happy to pick up/drop off since I'm in Vernon everyday anyways. I thought it was the Richardson's?

Hubby made for breakfast: fresh eggs over easy with fried potatoes and onions. Yum yum.

Had 1 more fresh egg in the litter box this morning. Little girl had store bought scrambled. After breakfast, hubby was going to cook up some scrambled eggs for the girls. But after cracking a couple, he said they nearly exploding and didn't smell so hot. None of them floated during the water test, but they still weren't good. So they got tossed in the compost pile (which is far away from the house).

Showed my mom the two fresh eggs last night. She took each one and shook it. Not quite sure what she was looking for, to see if they were fake?

Good thing you weren't planning to incubate them!

Well, we had our first experience with the livestock auction (Fingerlakes, in Canandaigua yesterday). We brought three ducks down to sell. Still don't know how much they brought. We left so I wouldn't be heartbroken to see them handled.
I know that's how livestock is normally handled, but my daughter and I were crushed. Our poor ducks screamed and carried on. I thought my poor daughter was going to cry.
I thought about bidding on some australorp hens but I can't tell if a hen is old or young (how DO you tell???) so I passed.
But we DID get two new babies. We came home with two 6 month old little goats. They are twins and were bottle fed. OMG are they cute! We have been having a blast with them. All new experience. My daughter was with us, but the look on my son's face when he saw them at home was priceless.
Did anyone else make it to the auction?

Aaakkk I meant Richardsons, I don't know why I wrote Williamsons....They said its only going up more since they are paying more for corn & soy...
The only problem with buying in bulk like that, is, the nutritional value of the feed starts going down when it is ground. That is one reason I like buying from them because its ground fresh, but buying a ton would make the last part less nutritional so you are probably losing in the end due to lesser nutritional value as it ages...Does that make sense? LOL

I try to buy every 2 weeks because of that. I use 6 bags each time.

I use to feed Agway 21% egg layer at $15 a bag, but can't afford that anymore. I wonder how much it is now? Its been 6 months since I bought it last.

Thanks for the offer Tab, I'm going away that Sunday, but not till the afternoon, so I can bring over birds.

We usually buy every 2 weeks also, but we don't buy their mix of feed. We buy the Nutrena that they carry. Well I can't say we don't buy their mix. We do buy the grower, scratch, and sweet feed for the horses.

Last night I got rid of 6 Dels, 1 EE and 1 BLRW. This morning when I went to let everyone out I couldnt believe all the room! Told DH that look more room for silkies now!
