NY chicken lover!!!!

Egads, speaking of crowing, all my baby roosters are now crowing. bleh. I may have to get rid of my gorgeous white am (Q-Tip) - he crows very loud and shrill and does it all day long. He's a great and gorgeous roo otherwise, but compared to the other three he is VERY obnoxious.. I've been hiding from the neighbors trying to decide if he has to go LOL.

Look! He's NOT crowing in this picture!! =)

Yay! Many of my pullets are finally laying! Out of 19 pullets, I'm getting 11 or 12 eggs per day right now. So I think a few are still not quite of laying age. I'm trying to sit out there and figure out who is and who isn't. Dh laughs at me because I'll sit out there for hours watching the girls come and go.
I discovered that one pullet makes the announcement "Baaaalllllk" whenever another pullet lays an egg. It's hysterical. Then she'll walk out of the coop with the other one like, "Hey, I supervised!".
Haha! I just watched one of my girls to that this morning! Glad I'm not the only one who's easily entertained! My DH makes fun of me for this as well.

Yesterday morning I caught a weasel in my headlights when I was leaving for work. I'm going to have to buy a bigger trap because the one we have is for chipmunks. If I could have hit it with my car I would have, but it was running along the hedgerow on the lawn.

Is Q tip an Americana?
Yep. I often call him an easter egger, but folks on here say he's an ameraucana (which is what he was supposed to be). Came from a pretty blue egg. My other main rooster is an EE and while he of course crows, it's deeper and less annoying, plus he does it a lot less. No neighbors have shown up with pitchforks yet, but I bet it's coming. LOL.

I will let you know! I am only about 10 minutes from schuylerville and I hate to put him on craigslist. He gets along quite well with his ladies now that he's got the hang of things, but if he doesn't quiet down a little I'm afraid he has to go. I gave him a pep talk today, maybe it will work LOL.

Beware of neighbors bearing barbecue forks...

kamir

PS: He is a good looking chicken!

Egads.. I have TWO more broodies - one is my other itty bitty araucana who insists on going broody on TOP of another broody. LOL. I have to get a pic tomorrow. I put her on the roost tonight, hoping she'll give this up. Have a molting NN who is also broody and my two sharing broodies with their little yellow chicks. Aren't they all supposed to do this in the spring??!? :)

I went in with Pyxis and hopefully will have six hatchery chicks to divide up among the broodies, but cmon girls, I don't need any more chickens! :p

I am so glad I only gave my other little araucana two chicks - this is her about a week ago. NOW she is sitting on them like they are part of the roost (I need a pic!). Both are rooster chicks tho. =(
