no kidding. My black austrolop screams when she lays, for 10 minutes easily after she is done. Same if someone is in her way. And someone always is in the nest box she wants. As she never wants the empty box, just the occupied ones. I hunt 1/2 to 3/4 of a mile from the house and can hear her when she lays an egg. Hens are not quiet....

I love the "hens are very quiet" line. Someone needs to tell my Marans about that. She goes on for ages at the top of her lungs whenever she lays. I also have a Brahma who yells her fool head off if another bird has the audacity to be in her favorite nest box when she wants to lay.
You could check with your local town offices and see what the local zoning and regulations are concerning chickens.Hi, I live in Markham Ontario, love to have chicken, but unfortunately can't in Markham, do you have any info. about legal issues of having chickens in backyard of Markham? Thanks.
