NY chicken lover!!!!

Ahhhh Ok I see. Well maybe I'll look into adding some more. Someone in Tully had some cochins for sale, the rooster was really pretty but I'm hesitant about adding another roo after what I discovered about my silkie I lost. But thats another story. I would just like to add another smaller hen for my silkie hen. She's the smallest and I feel like she's always left behind our of the four now that her partner is gone.

well you need 1 nest box for every 3 hens, so I think you are ok!

where is tully? I am trying to find cochins.

We got our second egg today. I'm so glad I finally have a laying hen! Her eggs have been small so far so I'll wait until this weekend before making some for breakfast and trying them.

Hope everyone had a blast at the meetup yesterday. It was a beautiful day for it.

I've been contemplating adding another hen or two to my flock but right now my coop only holds 3 nestboxes, one per hen that I have. This may sound like a stupid question but will hens lay in each other's boxes? How does that work if you have more laying hens than nest boxes?

Lynzi,
I have 19 pullets and only 6 nesting boxes. Often, I will find an egg or two in some boxes, and then SIX eggs in one box. lol They have their favorite... 3rd one in.

I guess now my problem would be finding something to keep the new ones in to keep them separated from my flock for the first few days until everyone is ok with each other.

Does anyone know what my "buff orpington" really is? That hatchery in Seneca Falls sold me three of these "buff orpingtons", but I don't think so! Last time there.

The other one is slightly lighter, but also has the fancy neck feathers and they both had more white tail feathers, but those were just too flashy for the RIR and BRs to ignore.
